Number of news channels

Today there are more then 20 news channels and most of all showing same kind of news... coz of this huge list or too many news channel the fight of being on top or number one news channel has started... also coz of so many news channels unnecessary repetition of news, useless news, hyping of news for trp's and profit is going on.. All the news channels are so busy in becoming number one that they have forgot their main job that is showing correct and precise news and not creating chaos by hyping news such as of swine flu and that of earth is going to end in year 2012..

My question is what you all think that there should be limitation on the number of news channels and the news they show?

No. Being a democratic country we cannot have such limitations.
For Eg: China. It is a communist country and so they have control on press. Press shows what Beijing wants to show people and world.
Too much is also good and have bad side of it as well. Too much will reduce demand, reduce importance. But at the same time more competition, more for consumer with lighter on pockets.
Too less is also good but also has bad sides. Too less will have fewer options, fewer choices, good decisions, fierce competition. But at the same time less competition, consumer needs to pay more.
Finally, control is in consumer’s hand. Consumer will watch the channels, which satisfy there needs. Due to elections in Mumbai around the corner, I prefer watching regional channels such as IBM Lokmat and Zee Marathi for updates and current status. But when we have Lok Sabha elections, I will prefer AaJ Tak or Zee News. When I need to track US elections, I will switch to CNN rather than regional or national channels. The hype created by channels on certain issues is important to retain there market shares. Though it may not be correct, but there is no regulatory process to contain them. But, at the same time, some information is correct and it may have some effect and resolutions in place.
Demands changes as per scenario. If consumer has access to more than 100 channels, then they may watch as per my demands.

Well i think we cannot stop new channels as we are the democratic country and we have given right to each and everyone to express himself/herself. Yes it is also true that day by day news channels are multiplying in numbers on regional and national basis competition is getting more and more stronger. There are very few channels who are showing proper and right news and NDTV is one of such channels. Well we also have channels who lack news and who hype and over highlight even casual statements of people.

One of such recent problem created by media are misrepresenting statement of Gary Kirsten who has never said Indian players for using sex as improving their performance but media shown it as major news and recently Gary Kirsten has given statement that he and his family are hurt regarding such problem created by media.

so i think news channels are now a days making fake news for their publicity like some channels are still chatting about wrong info of incursions from China. Even after govt has clarified this thing.

There must be a body to regulate these channels or Indian Govt must control the news which are broadcasted by these channels just like China and U.S.A do.

We can have 20 or 200 or even 2000 news channels...
but so long as they don't show genuine news, they are total crap...

When Nostradomas predicted that the world will end on Dec 21, 2012.. never in his wildest dreams would have he thought that 20 news channels would be simultaneously showing his prediction 3 years before the event happening....

cant restrict no. of news channels, but v know that there are a few news chanels whch can b counted as beleivable and responsible, like cnn, ndtv, etc
