Congress Govt has implemented the Scheme named National Rural Employeement Guarantee Scheme(NREGS) targetted towards providing employement for the rural people. Some of the main points of the scheme are:

1.Atleast 100 days of employeement would be given to a member of the family in Rural areas.

2.The employement will mostly be in the unskilled area i.e People will be employed in areas of construction of roads or water tanks in rural areas.

3.Minimum wages of Rs.60/day will be given for atleast 100 days for those working under this scheme.

So,on rough figs the avg monthly income for a family under this scheme would be Rs.500/month.This won't be sufficient enough to meet the expenses of a family of two in any of the rural areas in the country.

Some of the problems that has surfaced due to this scheme are:

1.Most of the areas don't maintain the list of people who have worked for specific no.of days.this will lead to the wage distribution problem.

2.Working conditions are nt conducive for the workers.

All these will cost the Govt an expense of Rs.40,000 crores/yr.So is this scheme seriously necessary, when it is nt able to meet its own purpose.

its good to give them employment but not in this way..... it wud be better to generate more avenues where they can work and based on which they should be paid accordingly.....

no the basic wage is far below than the market rate so its not lucarative but it gives guarentee of employment if we need it direly...a bit of improvement id neededbut it must not be abolished
