The markets opened with an upside gap on account of strong global cues but struggled throughout the day and finally ended with modest gains. Buying was seen in Auto, Banking and Metal counters while IT and Reality sectors ended on a very flat note. The Sensex closed at 17,645 up 86 points after trading in the range of 17,683-17,558. Nifty shut at 5,282 up 21 point after trading in the range of 5,293- 5,260. The Small cap and Mid-cap indices ended relatively flat. The breadth of the market was negative and the turnover was recorded at Rs 75,954Cr. The April nifty future ended with a 10 point premium. The sensex for the week was up by 234 points and Nifty was up by 77 points. The markets ended on a strong note consecutively for the seventh week.
