The markets did make a fresh 52 week high of 17,991 but failed to sustain the higher levels and ended with modest gains. Buying was seen in Banking, Metal and Reality sectors while Auto and IT stocks witnessed selling pressure. The Sensex closed at 17,941 up 5 points after trading in the range of 17,991-17,898. Nifty shut at 5,366 down 2.5 point after trading in the range of 5,389- 5,351. The Small cap and Mid-cap indices were up by 0.57% and 0.73% respectively. The breadth of the market was very strong and the turnover was recorded at Rs 74,367Cr. The April nifty future ended with a 5 point premium.
