The Sensex failed to sustain the 17,000 mark and closed at 16,972 down 28 points while Nifty shut at 5,080 down 8 point after trading in the range of 5,097- 5,049 . The Small cap and mid cap indices were also up by 0.81% and 0.78% respectively. The breadth continued to remain strong and the markets turnover recorded at Rs 83,621Cr.
