The Sensex closed at 17,343 down 58 points after seeing an intraday high of 17,440. The Nifty slipped 18 points to settle at 5,169 after hitting an intra-day low of 5,160. The broader indices outperformed the benchmark indices; the BSE Midcap Index was up 0.33% and Smallcap up 1.13%. Sell-off was in capital goods, metal, oil & gas stocks while buying seen in realty, cement, select auto and power stocks. The breadth was positive and market reported total turnover of Rs 95,658 cr. ahead of F&O expiry.
