The Sensex declined 28 points to close at 17,169 after hitting a high of 17,329 while Nifty closed marginally up at 5,123. Among the broader indices, the BSE Midcap Index was up 0.9% and Smallcap up 0.8%. The breadth were not strong while volumes improved compared to yesterday.
