Chile's economic advancement in addressing macroeconomic disparities accumulated in recent years has been notable. The adjustment of internal demand persisted, and inflation diminished, albeit staying above the set target. To achieve further advancement, there is a necessity for an acceleration in growth, considering it averaged a mere 2 percent in the six years preceding the pandemic.

In the first half of 2023, the real GDP exhibited a year-on-year contraction of 1 percent, primarily influenced by the delayed impacts of fiscal and monetary tightening in 2022 following unprecedented expenditures in 2021. The unemployment rate experienced a 0.7 percentage point increase in June 2023. Although female labor force participation grew by 2 percentage points compared to the previous year, it remains below pre-pandemic levels. Poverty, defined as living on less than US$6.85 a day, decreased from 8.0 percent in 2020 to 4.8 percent in 2022. Income inequality, as measured by the Gini coefficient, reached 0.43 in 2022. However, compared to 2020, there were more inadequacies in non-financial areas like social safety and healthcare.

The projected real GDP scenario is for a 0.4 percent decline in 2023 and a medium-term recovery to a 2 percent trend growth rate. Forecasts indicate that poverty will increase by 0.4 percentage points to 5.2 percent in 2023, while the Gini coefficient is anticipated to remain at 0.43.
