Khadi is the pride and joy of our nation and can be easily understood from the fact that the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) gave it the first place by way of national flag specification.
As per BIS, Khadi is the only fabric that is used for production of India’s national flag. One national flag production project has been started in consultation with South Indian Textile Research Association (SITRA) at Karnataka Khadi Gramodyog Samyukta Sangh, an NGO of KVIC at Bengeri, Hubli (Karnataka) at an estimated cost of Rs. 51.10 lakh.
The first phase of the project was commissioned during 2004-05. BIS completed necessary formalities for giving the project clearance on specifications. The project would be fully commissioned by the end of 2006- 07 and it is expected to produce around 5000 National flags per day in different sizes
