My Way. My life. My Yuvalution

Had this topic been given to a teen in college, I bet we would’ve had a chance to read some epic lines stating how his freedom matters to him. Youth now-a-days proudly say that it’s their life and they will live it their way. Cool. But if I rewind my memories, I get an echo from the school corridors. “Every revolution begins with a step”. Without making any more circles, I take you to the core message.

If we have to go by simple grammar, the term ‘yuvalution’ can be simply put as ‘youth plus revolution’. For the innocent minds, the term ‘yuva’ is a word for youth in Hindi language. So, code cracked? Well, as simple as it seems, this petite equation is the genesis of a new era.

Let’s get to the point. I said it’s youth “plus” revolution. So an assumption arises that the youth today has turned over a new leaf. True. But here I wish to shift my magnifying glass on the word “plus.

Agreed, that the youth has brought about a revolution. But what has made it possible? What is the hidden meaning in “plus”? Who is the enabler?

The ‘plus’ is nothing but the internet. A better term, digital space. Before you start pointing eyebrows, read further of what I have to say. I don’t praise it for ‘introducing’ a revolution, but the spark in everyone has been definitely given wind by it. Okay, an example. A recent one. While Anna was busy fasting and protesting against corruption, how did he manage to build a support of a million people over a few days? Obviously he wasn’t Rajnikanth. But seriously, could you have imagined a merely popular face gaining momentum all over the country over few hours?

What made it possible was bringing people together on the digital space. People with like minds sitting on their screens and shaking hands indirectly via keyboards; uploading videos and pictures of the protest and inspiring a thousand hands to rise; the issue gaining momentum with a button named ‘LIKE’ somewhere on the internet. There’s no doubt that people can now raise their voices, collectively and freely. Was this possible 10 years back?

The digital space can be stretched as far as one’s imagination. Thus, it is capable of fitting any amount of voice and makes it heard. But Yuvalution is not just about protests; it’s about the difference in minds that were born 20 years back and those born in this era; the difference of opinion in different situations. All that has changed, and changed for good.

Students in schools are no longer slaves of books. Relatives near and far are just a click away. Your long lost friend is waiting for you on some social network. Mothers now have a friend to guide them in their leisure time. Fathers have a companion to multiply his income and at his convenience. College students know where their future lies. Companies can now grow and work multifold. The news around the world follows us. They are there, waiting for our fingers to lay on them. A tablet is not just a health product; it’s a lifestyle category. You can lend a helping hand to a guy sitting in some corner of the globe. Arrange marriages are no longer just a ‘yes’. You’re aware of what’s happening and what’s going to happen. Investors are more secure now. Teachers no longer have to bury their hands in chalk. And again, Anna didn’t even have to make a call.

This ‘plus’ agent has catapulted a youth’s confidence to go places. Considering the puppets that people were of the education and political systems, the digital space stands as their knight in shining armor. There are numerous other examples but I think I’ve made myself clear here. I can boldly assume that the technology advancements and its accessibility have regained the world of its lost confidence. It has given people a voice and now they inspire each other. They know which path leads where and they know what where to find the path.

The youth’s mantra is definitely ‘My life. My way. My Yuvalution’. Keep shouting you young bloods! But my motive is to remind people that you should also respect the thing that gave your vocals a platform. I’ve given justice to my derivations. And now you know who made this ‘Yuvalution’ possible. Logging off.
