MY SUMMER INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE WITH TATA MOTORS

I got an opportunity to do my summer internship at Tata Motors in Kerala. It was an awesome feeling that, I got an opportunity to do my project in a fortune 500 company. As we know, Tata Motors is the subsidiary of TATA son. You can say that it is one of the part of TATA son. Company profile says, The Company was established in 1935 as a locomotive manufacturing unit and later expanded its operations to commercial vehicle sector in 1954 after forming a joint venture with Daimler-Benz AG of Germany.

When I got this big opportunity to do my Summer Internship in Tata Motors, I was dreaming like anything what to do and what not to do. My first objective was to collect as much as information regarding Tata Motors and of-course practical experience- how to deal with customers and what is the perception of customers regarding Tata vehicles. I spend two and half months of golden days with my guide, sales executive and our customers. I had attended two meetings and collected data regarding my project. I was also in promotional activity. I was doing comparative study on Tata SFC 407 Pickup and Mahindra Max pickup in LCV segment. Both technical and commercial features and acceptance of Tata SFC 407 pickup among customers.

DAY 1-

I finished my all un-productive works early and get ready to impress my company people as everyone does. Though I faced a little problem to find out proper location but I managed at-last. (I dont know Malayalam). I went to 3rd floor where my company office is. Then, my area manager called me to conference room for discussion (actually introduction). After that I met with my guide and other members of the company. On that day, somehow I was able to make impression on others.

DAY 2-

I got my job what to do for next two months. So, I started working on my job on day 2. I prepared my questionnaire for survey and also started collecting secondary as well as primary data.

First month I was able to finish my primary works (like- data collection and customer visit). On second month I started working on collecting more details about the vehicle and company issues. I prepared questionnaire separately for my knowledge. I worked with other college students, they came after me. So, I was also in responsible for conveying them what I found during my project. It was such a nice feeling when you are reading from books and that you actually face it during survey. I mean, what you are reading from books you are going to apply in your summer internship project.

On first month my guide told that, as soon as possible you finished your college project and I will give you our company issues to handle. So, it was a good opportunity for me to handle company issues where I can get to know more about company details and imbibe corporate style. Then I became so determinant to complete my project first. I did it but as we know during SIP we all guys are very lazy, so I finished it in late. Still I got an opportunity to handle company issues. I started work on it very soon. During those periods I got so many interesting facts, figures and information. Which I could not get during my project work. I finished it successfully. Our college gave a deadline to submit our report but due to participation in EMERGING KERALA COMPETITION our project deadline pre-pond. So now I started working on my project in 2x speed. Finally, I was able to complete my project but I had fear that, whether my project will be accept or not.

I enjoyed a lot in my SIP time. Not only I was busy with my project but also I was with my friends whenever they needed me. Those days I can’t forget it will remain in my memory for a long time. In 2 years of full time PGDM program if you will get such an opportunity then everyone wants to break all the rules and enjoy the ultimate. Because we know how hectic schedule we have.

Last but not least, I learned a lot than book jargons of marketing. I can say that, untill an unless you have practical knowledge you will feel difficult to understand bookies language.

LIMITATIONS:-

  • Language problem because i don't know Malayalam( basicaly from odisha)
  • Sometimes travel expenses were so much which created a big barrier in survey.
  • Due to busy schedule it was difficult for me to get time for discussion with company memebers.
  • less area assigned for survey.

Though I faced some difficulties during my SIP but I learned a lot out of my comfort zone.
