MUMBAI MUN 2013

Mumbai MUN is an endeavour that has taken years to come to fruition. A Model United Nations Conference that had been envisioned for over 10 years finally sprang into existence with its first edition in 2012 thanks to the support and encouragement given by Mumbai MUN’s host University-NMIMS University. In association with MPSTME MUN Society and The Management Society-TSEC, the Mumbai MUNners’ Association (MMunA) had been successful in giving form to an idea which was simply aimed at the pure purpose of the concept of Model United Nations Conferences-spreading awareness, furthering diplomacy and promoting the spirit of healthy debate.

After an extremely successful Mumbai MUN 2012 where everyone got an opportunity to witness brilliant debates, diplomacy and most importantly proposed solutions to numerous world issues, Mumbai MUN 2013 aims to surpass these levels this year.

The motto of Mumbai MUN 2013 is “Going Back to the Basics”. It is the humble belief of the founders of Mumbai MUN that MUNning over the years has become extremely popular with more and more people all over the world getting interested in this concept. However, along with the growing interest of millions of students, MUNning has become victim to commercialization. This has resulted in lowering of standards of debate and the loss in focus from the whole purpose of MUNning. At Mumbai MUN 2013, our aim is to revive this fast dying debating culture which seems to be fading away.

In order to ensure that our motto is fulfilled, in the build up to Mumbai MUN 2013, we shall be having a series of MUN workshops and seminars in relation to agenda discussion, development of diplomatic skills, international affairs and understanding of procedure among numerous other things. In order to ensure that all our international delegates get to be a part of these workshops, they will also be uploaded online. Additionally, though social events and other activities will also form a part of Mumbai MUN 2013, the sole focus is going to be on MUNning throughout the three days of the conference.

That said, we are sure that this year is going to be even better than last and will help us in our sole goal of ensuring development of MUNning in Mumbai and the rest of the world as well by providing a wonderful platform for discussions, a crossroads for eloquence and most importantly an epicenter for world solutions.

Lastly, Mumbai in our belief is one of the greatest and most eclectic cities on the planet. We hope to see you here for the three days of the conference. See you at Mumbai MUN 2013!

The conference, organized by a dedicated team of students and supported by educators and professionals, aimed to foster a deeper understanding of international relations and the workings of the United Nations.

One of the highlights of MUMBAI MUN 2013 was the variety of committees and topics that were covered, ranging from security and economic challenges to social and environmental concerns. Participants were assigned roles as delegates of different countries, tasked with representing their assigned nation’s policies and interests in debates and resolutions. This not only tested their knowledge and research skills but also their ability to negotiate and collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds.

The provided text announces Mumbai MUN 2013, the second edition of a Model United Nations Conference, with a strong emphasis on its core purpose and a commitment to refining the MUN experience.

Background and Inception:

Mumbai MUN was a long-envisioned project, taking over a decade to materialize. Its first edition successfully launched in 2012, primarily due to the support of its host, NMIMS University, and in collaboration with the MPSTME MUN Society and The Management Society-TSEC. The Mumbai MUNners’ Association (MMunA) was instrumental in bringing this idea to fruition, with the overarching goal of spreading awareness, furthering diplomacy, and promoting healthy debate—the fundamental purposes of Model United Nations Conferences.

Mumbai MUN 2013: "Going Back to the Basics"

Following a successful inaugural event in 2012, which showcased brilliant debates and diplomatic solutions to world issues, Mumbai MUN 2013 aims to elevate these standards further. Its motto for this year is "Going Back to the Basics." The founders believe that while MUNning has gained immense popularity globally, it has unfortunately fallen victim to commercialization, leading to a decline in debate standards and a loss of focus on its core purpose. Mumbai MUN 2013 is dedicated to reviving this "fast dying debating culture."

Preparation and Focus:

To achieve its motto, Mumbai MUN 2013 planned a series of preparatory workshops and seminars leading up to the conference. These sessions would cover essential aspects like agenda discussion, diplomatic skills development, international affairs, and understanding procedural rules. To ensure accessibility for international delegates, these workshops would also be uploaded online. While social events and other activities would be part of the conference, the sole focus throughout the three days would remain on "MUNning."

Vision and Impact:

The organizers express confidence that Mumbai MUN 2013 will surpass the previous year's success, contributing to the development of MUNning in Mumbai and globally. They aim to provide a superior platform for discussions, a "crossroads for eloquence," and an "epicenter for world solutions."

The conference dates were February 22nd-24th, 2013, and the venue was MPSTME, NMIMS University. The organizers also highlight Mumbai as one of the "greatest and most eclectic cities on the planet," hoping to welcome participants to the conference.
