Mobile Phone Manufacturers & cell phone operators in India - Industry information report :-

India had over 14.17 million mobile phone subscribers by May,2003, about 102.8 per cent more than the previous year.

Mobile phone users have risen to over 120 million in 2008, making this telecommunication sector one of the most lucrative markets for global mobile phone manufacturers & cell phone providers.

The main players in the cellular market include Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd, Idea Cellular Ltd, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd., and Reliance India Mobile. Mobile phone operators are making big price cuts on long distance calls & offering great discounts. Nokia, sony ericsson, samsung, and reliance mobile phones are most popular in India.

Chinese Mobile Phones have already arrived in India and are proving to be a challenge for local to other well known International cell phone brands. Priced lower with more features, Chinese cell phones have made their inroads in major Indian cities like Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkatta.

Hutch India is now known as Vodafone limited. Vodafone in joint collaboration with Essar group is registered as Vodafone Essar Limited. MTNL mobile

MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited) was established in 1986. It started its operations by providing landline telephony. MTNL launched GSM Cellular Mobile Service in the two metro cities of Delhi and Mumbai under the brand name ‘Dolphin’. The operation was launched in 2001. MTNL has been granted license to operate cellular services in the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi (including its four satellite towns of Ghaziabad, NOIDA, Faridabad & Gurgaon) and Mumbai (including Navi Mumbai & Kalyan). One of the prominent public sector undertakings, MTNL has helped in spreading usage of mobiles through good quality service and lower call rates.

Tata Teleservices was incorporated in 1996. It was the first ever company to launch CDMA mobile services in India and started its operations with Andhra Pradesh circle. Reliance Communications was formerly known as Reliance Infocomm and commenced its operation on 28 December 2002.
