pandemonium - n. riot, uproar, turmoil, panic, confusion; din, noise, ruckus

Here is a nice story. A panda from a zoo escapes and enters in a hall where a jagjit singh is playing a harmonium. Everybody is in a panic. There is an uproar, turmoil.. Noone knows what to do in such a confusion. There is no much noise, hulla bulla due to the panda.


Synonyms - BEDLAM, chaos, mayhem, uproar, turmoil, tumult, commotion, confusion, anarchy, furore, hubbub, rumpus
 
temerity - boldness; rashness, impetuosity

Think of the word tremor. The are violent. Hence this word can be described to be something that is violent, bold and rash.

Synonyms - AUDACITY, nerve, effrontery, impudence, impertinence, cheek, gall, presumption; daring; informal face, front, (brass) neck, chutzpah.
 
Invidious - offensive, discriminatory; causing resentment, hateful

Invi-dious.... Think of envy. When u envy someone u might hate him, be dicriminatory or be offensive to him. Might even be resentful.

provenance and providence are like and related words. Providence means fate, God, etc... Fate is what has been originally written for everyone. That is the source of happening and can't be changed. Likewise, God is the source of all the stuff in the universe. Hence, we can remember provenance as source, origin; derivation, extraction
 
Lout - awkward person, stupid person, bumpkin

When u think of lout, immediately the word loud flashes ur mind. Now remember the saying "Empty vessel makes most noise" which means lout should be someone who is an empty vessel. A person who has no brains, is an awkward type person. Hence we get our meaning.
 
peregrination - When i hear peregrination, i am reminded of two words.... perigee and nation..

perigee is a term related to the geographical co-ordinates. It means closest point to the earth in the orbit of the moon or other celestial body

Nation is another country.

So come to think of it we are talking something related to space, something which is away from me... To go to some place i would have to do a voyage, a journey. Nation also reminds u of migeration... wandering off to a far off land....

peregrination - travel, journey, voyage; migration, wandering
 
decorous - tasteful, proper, correct

Relate this word to decorum... say the decorum of a forum or a meeting which needs to be tasteful or proper or correct.. Hence remember this word through that
 
anachronistic - obsolete, out of date; not properly dated, not assigned to the correct time period (of a person, object or event)


When i think of them, i can remember of anarchy and chronology

Now, analysing this word it is ana-chronistic..... i.e. not chronistic... chronology is sequence of past events; science of arranging time in periods and ascertaining the order of past events

So something that is not in sequence should be all odd, obselete or not in order or maybe old and junked too...

Likewise, think of anarchy - lawlessness, absence of laws and government which also refers to an obselete system or something which needs to be renewed...
 
contravention - violation, transgression, infringement

Well i think of it by counter..... which means against..... Say u set some rules and i start countering them, breaking them bit by bit.... Attacking those rules.

Another word which is available is intervention... which means to enter between a topic.... Say eg, two people are fighting.... now u r coming in between them. Think of the word here as poking the nose.... so u are violating something... infringing upon the right.... intervening in a wrong way.

As regards, apperceive and appertain they're connected to perceive and pertain and hence their meanings should be the same as perceive and pertain respectively.


perceive means to grasp or comprehend something
pertain means connected to or belong to.
 
Machiavellian. It means crafty or double dealing.

Imagine i am going to the market and i want to buy fish (macchi). The fish monger woman is a clever lady who purchased the fish for rupees 80/kg but is selling me for Rs.100/kg. Her fish doesnt look fresh and is probably gone bad... But with her unique style, she encourages me to buy it and she would give some of it for free too.... I buy it and when i come home, the fish is real bad and has to be thrown out.

So machiavellian is some who.... scheming, deceptive, manipulative

Synonyms - DEVIOUS, cunning, crafty, artful, wily, sly, scheming, treacherous, two-faced, tricky, double-dealing, unscrupulous, deceitful, dishonest; poetic/literary perfidious; informal foxy.
 
delate : to accuse or to denounce.

u can also relate it to debate. Debating involves a lot of accusing , condemning etc and hence it is similiar to delate.

So some stuff which is in equality will have?? RESEMBLANCE to that equality. Both of the things will be equal. So u can say that one is having the resemblance to the other.

The other meaning is family relation... Likewise, in a family, the relationships will have equality. You would care the same for ur parents and siblings... So the family relations also denote equality.
 
PROPHYLACTIC - preventative of disease, means of prevention

Well this is pretty simple! I would divide it as prophet and lactic. Now imagine prophet Mohammed is giving u a jar full of holy milk (lactic) which will make u healthy forever and would prevent any diseases ever. It would safeguard u from all diseases.
 
verdant - I can think of it this way... when u think of verdant... u naturally think of vardan (in hindi). Vardan means prosperity and green is the colour of prosperity.
 
baleno - lighting...

What would happen if ur wife hits u with a balen.... it would be like getting hit by lighting... twice! So there u go, u can remember it now.
 
Sangfroid - (French) "cold blood", coolness of mind, composure

Synonyms:
COMPOSURE, equanimity, self-possession, equilibrium, aplomb, poise, self-assurance, self-control, nerve, calm, presence of mind; informal cool, unflappability.


Think that u are in a tough situation...... All are tensed...... and then, suddenly, to ease the tension, u start singing Pink Floyd's song, maybe like, Coming Back to Life. Everyone starts laughing and applauds u on the coolness u have and u become a cool dude or dudette.

So sangfroid shows coolness of mind.
