Many people are wondering what the starting salary is once they complete their MBA. Many people co-relate their bachelors degree with their masters and speculate on the kind of remuneration they should receive.
The fact remains that your prior degree doesn’t matter — an MBA with a bachelor’s degree in economics will make about the same money as an MBA with a bachelor’s degree in any other field.
The starting salary of an MBA is completely dependent on the quality of the school, rather than on the degree. Someone going to a top 15 school will make six figures. Someone with an MBA from an unranked program will make about the same as someone with a BS in Business.
You can look up average starting salaries at US News (see the link below). Here are a few numbers:
1. Harvard — $135,630
1. Stanford — $134,654
3. Wharton — $132,171
7. UC-Berkeley — $116,263
14. Duke — $117,473
19. UNC — $112,375
29. Wisconsin — $93,097
39. Maryland — $99,433
49. Iowa — $77,952
59. South Carolina — $80,498
Unranked — Auburn $65,617
Unranked — Texas Tech — $55,878
Unranked — St John’s (NY) — $65,000
As you can see, there is a huge drop-off once you get past the top 40.
