Any individual who appears for an MBA entrance program will definitely know about the relative importance of the CAT and MAT score in entering these programs. CAT – Common Aptitude Test and MAT –Management aptitude test which are normally conducted and the individuals get in to reputed B-Schools based on the score or merit secured in these entrance exams. Hence the candidates know that they should appear for these exams and the performance in these exams will determine the entire future or chances for them to succeed or enter in to a prestigious institution for such a high program. The Common admission test when compared to the Management aptitude test is highly significant. The prestigious and reputed B—schools in the country namely the IIMs only opt for students who have scored high in the CAT exam. Hence the significance of the Common Aptitude test (CAT) is very high and crucial.

Let us go to some years back where in the demand and need for the management degree was slowly being recognized the Common Aptitude test (CAT) was only one of the few entrance exams which was attended by the individuals for entering in to the management section or career. At that time, the CAT was considered to be a leader among the management entrance examinations.

At first, the IIMs adopted the CAT scores. But as mentioned above, the level of competition in this area has been stiff which has resulted in large number of individuals opting for a management career and attending the entrance exams to get in to this career area. As a result of this another form of entrance namely the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) slowly began to capture the management market. This test also has high credibility because it is being conducted by the All India management association (AIMA). This has been quite to a large extent was capable of capturing the market ruled by CAT also.

Even though the top B- Schools like IIMs, IITs, FMS etc are still taking in the CAT scores a number of other prominent institutes have shifted from CAT to MAT scores. As a result of which the number of B-Schools currently accepting the CAT scores is around 155 when compared to the 1800 number of MAT scores. Nowadays, there are schools who accept both the MAT and CAT scores.

The AICTE has issued instruction regarding the admission of students based on CAT, MAT, CET scores. Since this is a tough way of analyzing the student aptitude the top-level colleges always opted for CAT and the average and above average colleges opted for both CAT and MAT for letting in students to the B-Schools. The tough competition is still continuing though it is evident that the CAT colleges are being more reputed and also expensive when compared to the MAT colleges.

CAT and MAT both are the entrance exam tests conducted for getting admission in B school for MBA. CAT (Common Admission Test) is conducted for the selection of candidates in top B-schools including IIM%u2019s in India. Some of the colleges which accept MAT scores include Alliance Business Academy (Bangalore), Christ College Institute of Management, Bangalore, Indian Institute of Finance (Delhi), IMS (Ghaziabad) and BIMTECH (Noida).
