yes i agree MBA dgree is not requried for becoming a good manager. but it wiil give a speedy decision making power

The focus of mba is not really academic knowledge but more of soft skill development... you can pick up better structured courses for knowledge but the soft skills- networking, communication, handling pressure, realising that you cannot humanly excel at each task, delegation ... thats the real value addition
plus there is more of a closed mindset in corporations today where an mba is almost like a pre-requisite

i was crazy about doing an mba, however i nw feel that the things we study in mba course curriculum are just too generlised, and for being a sucessful manager u do not need to have an mba degre...i feel that a regualr degree is gud enuf for getting u campus placements....wat do u say guys....

great

hello friends
allow me to share my view on this topic..among a few years of workex i would like to pull up the latest one wherein i was working as a Business Developmemnt Executive in the Intl.Mktg. Cell of a IT solutions company..I was the only engg.grad in our deptt n rest were MBAs..though you are competent at work its really hard to fight the preconceived notion of "MBAs knows deeper n better" and it counts a lot..i admit i had to devote much time on knnowing things which are already been taught to rest during their MBAs..
And finally i dived in a 2yr full time MBA course to upgrade my knowledge and with a hope to present my competency with a MBA degree shining bright on my CV.. :)

If you see the current trend... Many people rush up to take MBA exams just because they have no better jobs and want to show to the world that they too are busy, not satisfied with the current job or drifted by the hush money MBA graduates are offered.
There are very little percentage of people who really want to persue the degree for their passion and deliver for the development of country in a affarmative direction.

Well i think everything depends upon your own personality and standings,,other than that it obviously provides you with an edge.

Although it is generalised, it does take some extra than our Graduation Degree n curriculum, as one has to go around and dwell in 10-11 subjects each semester.
Which anyway wont create specialists

So, one really cannot master it all, actually if we remove the glam n huge pay packets from our thoughts then we can see to it as worth something.

Coz the Placements n Pay will always be commanded by one who is in command of his choosen subjects, its not for everyone just bcoz he is a MBA.

So, in a way the MBA program gives us a look of various subjects n from where we can decide our career path, where we find familiar grounds and like to work n not just for placements, even though thats the ultimate goal. It is more abt broadening horizons. Looking at things from various angles.

In Finance u have 100's of classified subjects where u can work on, same must b with other Splzn'.

Banking, Insurance, Capital Market, Forex, Investment Banking, Project finance, Treasury Management, as u go deep each has its own specialized outlook.

So its quite essential, being a MBA, atleast then u know u R still th same even without doin MBA Otherwise like all others PPL u wud also attach high premium for a MBA.

hi....mba degree matters only on papers...every thing depends on a persons caliber to grow within the oraganisation...there r crore of ppl. without mba degree and still end up life with all pleasure...

history is eg.

Bill Gates
Warren Buffet
Google ppl. etc...all r non mba ppl.

Whether to have a MBA degree in your bag depends on the type of profession you choose. There are certain things which are taught to you in MBA. For example, if you wanna become a HR manager, you cannot do it without studying HR management. A person who wants to get a managerial position in an IT firm, finds it difficult without a MBA in Systems. Of course, I do agree that to become a good manager you need to have the skills spontaneously, there are obviously certain qualities that noone can inculcate in you, right? The most important part of all MBAs is the case study, without which we find it very difficult to gain experience about the current situation in our field of interest. So, you see, MBA is necessay, at least in certain cases it is a must, but not for all. Many people go for a MBA only because it would help them in getting a better salary. But what I feel is important is, we should enjoy the course all through, learn the managerial skills and imbibe certain qualities within ourselves that will help us in becoming better managers one day.

may be we know everything taught in mba beforehand or is it too generilistic or common sense. but d importance of mba is that we integrate all d generalistic knowledge and develop d business acumen. :tea:

the degree to which a person acquires knowledge is based on his/her own self. he shud have th thirst for fetching more knowledge.
About th Mba degree, i think its all a hype .. th industry jus gives you a red carpet treatment if u have a MBA tag.
th selection process in companies shud be properly done without bias. Degrees do count but special preference shouldnt b given only to Mbas.

whether u need mba degree or not depends upon the skills you posses.....if you have passion for developing people with leadership qualities to inspire them, then you need not have mba degree to be a manager(but thorough understanding of functions of management is nessary)

MBA is a Management Degree, it gives you knowledge to better manage the situations in common life.

I have experienced of having some innovative solutions in common day problems because of my MBA degree
