Y not, every thing has to begin from some where right, its all crap to think there are no opportunities in marketing if you don't have sales experience, there are fields in marketing such as brand building & equity research, which has nothing to do with sales...

Organizations like HPCL/BPCL etc are purely marketing companies. Dont confine marketing to sales only. As rightly stated by akashkhetpal, there are n number of activities like operations, brand building & equity research etc.
