management certificate v/s experience

DRISHYA

Drishya Prabhakaran
today's gen are rushing to get into MBA's so that they can declare themselves as d so called "Managers". For being a good manager do we really require this degree or diploma??! I dont agree much to this point.

For instance.... take hotel management....( i am personally nt against someone or some professional course).
I went to posh restaurants and found out these days that with newly employed caterers and managers they are far less efficient. They are in some kind of ecstacy of either being given a titled job or high salary and are very slow. But at the same place a middle aged employee is far more efficient.
on the other hand, the small restaurants employees are are much more efficient and down to earth in their behaviour.
Does it prove that we, the todayz gen think that we are god of everything and deserve much more than what we ae having and in the process look down upon people.. i think its happening more in india than other countries.
What say guys??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the future trend would be MBA institutions taking in people with work ex(The American model) as it makes the learning more fruitfull

Hi,
MBA is nt like the usual degree. It doesn't get over as soon as you pass the exams. The course teaches you with the tools to face a manageral level prblm. So having a degree and applying the doctrine learned in the B-school in work situation will complete a manager. So the Degree and the experience together will make a complete MBA.The one w/o other will nt be useful.

although experience is the key factor but now a dayz for a good and satisfying job you need to have a management certificate.. apart from this the Manag Schools do teach you hell lot of trhings.. as the word management itself says to manage, says it all.. and experience comes into picture when you apply all that you have learned; PRACTICALLY!!
and i feel the degree helps you max for 2years, later its your capability, capacity, hardwork n allll.... that counts!!:SugarwareZ-064:

hey dude.. agreed!! but i think this could be a question in your interview or in GD.. So better be carefull. All the best

dude, small restaurants have few fooditems on the menu that why the service is fast. whereas bigger restaurants serve different type of cuisines and have to handle more nos of peoples.

yup, i think that it better works with both and rest depends on how capable n skillful we are.

in theory certificate is important but in practical it has no existance against experience.theoratical knowledge is of no value without implimentation.what we read in theory is first practiced then preached.especiaaly with applied cources like mba, experience is most important.but our system is not conducive 2 it.it will take time 2 change.did gates n dhirubhai had has any mba??but now thousands of mbas working 4 them.so that is experience or common sense have no substitute.

U said it man!!! but in todays world if u want to suceed with little initial struggle u need a certificate to show off else to need god damn wealth to began on ur own

Management certificate is absolute essential, even i read an article Mittal regrets not doin MBA, even the same with Dhirubhai Ambani

yea i agree now a days every guy is thinking about degree matters. but according to me its not like that what is being thought by mba persuants. experience is also needed along with degree. if they will go in market they will find that market is in need of experienced persons rather than an mba. no doubt mba is such a course that will teach us various aspects of management but it all depends on how skilful the person is.

Management certificate is the best thing you can get but the cliche is mebbe right which says Experience is the best teacher,
and even to get the best of placements after an IIM MBA u still have to have experience or else the placements for freshers is about 8 lac/year on the other hand experience gets u around 1 crore+ / year

well what i think is a person who simply has common sense for doing a particular work i.e.
-what to do
-when to do
-how to do
-why to do in particular

the one who can answer these in a rational way to the above questions and who can take responsiblity of taking decisions when required at the right time, is a good manager.
not only this he must be able to negtiate with people as well as situations in a good way.

and i don't think for this u need a degree but it will give u a lot of exposure and opportunity

with regards
viny

I think a degree in no way can tell about the capability of the person. For e.g. an engineer's degree does not make a good engineer. One has to prove himself on the field after getting the degree. It is always better to get the experience first before going for any degree. That enables to appreciate and understand the course better.

both r necessary since experiance if you get in almost all field u like then its worth havin it but it will take almost all ur life to have that but mgnt will allow you to decide upon the priorities n go one by one atleast you end up getting most important thing first and that satisfaction really adds value and encouragement for next experiance or priority

I would like to start with a live example of Mr. Pawan Goenka.
He's the President (Automotive Sector), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
He was the man behind the launching of SCORPIO.
The team consisted of only 120 people, and they say it was all possible because of the experience and leadership of Mr. Goanka.
Dr. Pawan Goenka, who brings 14 years of international experience in the automobile industry, the team delivered the almost impossible.

I am not saying that only experience is of value. As a matter of fact, Mr. Goenka is a passout of IIT - Kanpur and has done a BS in Mechanical Engg.

Giving a recent example, Indra Nooyi, CEO of PepsiCo, is from IIM-C. But that degree didnt alone help her move up the corporate ladder. Before joining PepsiCo in 1994, Indra Nooyi was Senior Vice President of Strategy and Strategic Marketing for Asea Brown Boveri, and Vice President and Director of Corporate Strategy and Planning at Motorola. She also had stints at Mettur Beardsell and Johnson & Johnson.

So, you see its not only a degree helps, but its a blended combination of EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION.

guys in d start certificates r much imp as thy add weightage to ur biodata but later experience is emphasized on as thts wat matters more................
