Levers of control.


  • Diagnostic control systems use quantitative data to scan for anything unusual that might indicate a potential problem.

  • Employee rewards are based on how well performance goals have been met.

  • When goal are unrealistic empowered employees may sometime use their creativity to manipulate the factors which are under their control.
  • MR giving schemes other than those approved by the organization to meet sales target.


Beliefs System


  • Beliefs Systems are used to communicate the doctrines of corporate culture to every employee of the organization.

  • For belief system to be effective lever of control employees must be able to see key values & ethics in the same light as the manager & other people in high positions in the organisation.

Boundary System


  • BS are based on the principle that in an age of empowered employees it is easier & more effective to set the rules regarding what is inappropriate rather than what is appropriate.

  • BS are “minimum Standard” that the employees have to maintain.

  • Example forbidding employees to discuss client matters outside the office.


Interactive Control System


  • ICS are futuristic & involve frequent communication between top managers.
  • Brand management is a example of ICS.

  • characteristics of ICS are they focus on technologies, government policies competitor activities & customer preferences which are ever cahnging.
