CO-OPERATIVE LEADERS
Every organization that is a company or a co-operative society needs to run according to the principals laid down. Every company or a cooperative to survive in the market has to fight tough competition. To guide them, proper person is needed so as to take the co-operative to a proper and successful direction. Weather a multinational company or a co-operative to run both need a good leader. A leader is one who takes the initiative, guides into proper direction for the benefit of the co-operative, suggests new things for improvement or development etc. Many people from different places with different background with common goals to achieve come together to form a group and work in coordination. To lead this group to a proper and successful direction a leader is necessary. He should have proper responsibility in laying the goals and objectives and also the power to influence people to follow him. In co-operative any one can become a member by pooling equal resources. Then the members elect a leader with the approval of majority of members. The main function of co-operative leader is to make proper policies in working of co-operatives.
LEADERSHIP QUALITY
A leader should have various qualities to lead a team or a group. A leader is a person who guides the group to a proper direction. Hence a team will follow a leader who has good qualities. The main qualities are: • GOOD PERSONALITY: Personality is sum of physical, mental and social qualities. Many successful leaders have good personalities. • INTELLIGENT: a leader should be intelligent and should have proper educational or technical knowledge. He should have better knowledge than the people following or else the group may not respect him and would not follow. • INITIATIVE: Leaders should have the quality to take initiative of any activity to be performed. He should also be in position take proper decision while taking initiative. • SELF-CONFIDENCE: A leader should have confidence in him of doing any activity or taking of initiative. If the leader is not confidence the team may not influence the people to follow him. • COMMUNICATION SKILLS: A leader should have proper communication skill so as to communicate with people properly. He
should be able to communicate his ideas properly so that others can understand and follow him. • PROPER JUDGEMENT: A leader should be able to judge things or situation properly. He should be in position to judge the future consequents of the actions performed by the team and himself. These are the few important qualities, which a leader should have so that he can lead a team in a proper way and to achieve the goal set by the team.
PROFILE OF TATYASAHEB KORE
Tatyasaheb Kore alias Vishwanath V. Kore is the founder of Warana complex in Kolapur. He was born on 17th October 1914, he was the son of a farmer in a small village Kodoli. At a young age he had overcome several hurdles due to the poverty of his family. Besides poverty the sad demise of his parents might have crunched him a great deal. He was the eldest member in the family. Even after facing so many difficulties he did not loose any hope and took all the responsibilities on his shoulders to run and brought up from the entire difficult situation they faced. He entered into the local village co-operative society in 1935, and started his own social service for the people. He also participated in the freedom struggle of India like for the Quit India Movement of 1942. He also actively participated in the underground movement of Late "Y.B. Chavan” who was the 1st Former Deputy Prime Minister of India. Due to his excellent job of social services he was elected as President of Kodoli Municipality in 1940. He had also rejected the plea made to him to become an MP as he thought it would affect the working of WARANA. Tatyasaheb was a great motivator for his followers both in freedom struggle and also in social services. He has sacrificed his joys, happiness and stood bold to do the best for the people. He has achieved success in all fields despite facing of many difficulties as he had self-confidence in himself and also on his followers. He had a great vision for the benefit of
the people. His words were Godly words for his followers with an strong belief along with his team when he struck, the whole barren valley that was filled with dacoits and turned it into a prosperous and polite land. That was WARANA a place situated next to Kodoli village. He plunged into a severe action when a first-time depression in 1951 literally ruined the farmers by selling them at very less price because of monopolistic of a sugar industry situated in Sangli. All the farmers suffered heavy loss and their families didn’t have any other source of income to live. This shocking incident made Tatyasaheb to set up a modern cooperative sugar factory in the barren land WARANA. Tatyasaheb started raising small amounts of money from farmers and in 1959 he was able to open a co-operative sugar factory in the village of WARANA. The success of this sugar factory doubled his enthusiasm and lead to the overall development of Warana Complex. Today Warananagar is a place of many facets and its success story started unfolding with every sunrise. In the following years, many other activities were launched, and today, the WGC comprises 25 co-operative societies with a total turnover of $130 million. Today WARANA is a successful name in the co-operative movement and has achieved success in other areas too like: • A successful name in the operation flood • A successful name in the agricultural field • A successful name in the sugar lobby • A successful name in the education field • A successful name in the banking field
• A successful name in the consumer services and industries

And a successful name by itself.
WARANA is eminently, a unique name that stands as example in the co-operative movement in India. The uninitiated may be amazed by the way barren land has been converted into a green valley. The green valley with its smiling face welcomes the whole nation for its exemplary services. Hence with hard work and dedication towards the society Tatyasaheb had achieved a great success with WARANA co-operative. Today Late Tatyasaheb’s grandson Vinay Kore who is the chairman of WARANA Cooperative Group (WCG) looks after WARANA. Many financial institutional have financed for the smooth functioning of WARANA.
