AK Steel Corporation is an American steel company whose predecessor, Armco, was founded in 1899 in Middletown, Ohio. Today, the company's corporate headquarters is situated in West Chester, Ohio, (a suburb of Cincinnati) after having moved from Middletown, Ohio, in August 2007.[3]

SVC President Karen Gross remarked, “Jim Wainscott exemplifies the very best among our business leaders. In addition to running a remarkable company, he cares about the communities in which that company does business. We can all learn from both his business acumen and his civic commitment.” Champion figure skater Michelle Kwan will also be awarded an honorary doctorate at the SVC Commencement.
“It is a great honor to be selected by Southern Vermont College for this special recognition,” Wainscott said. “SVC is an exceptional educational institution and it will be a privilege to join the outstanding students, distinguished faculty and guests at the May commencement ceremony.”
Wainscott’s many community contributions include current service as vice chair of the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation in Cincinnati and as a member of the campaign board of Ohio Cancer Research Associates. Along with his wife, Darla, Wainscott serves as co-chair of the Children’s Home of Cincinnati’s Building on a Legacy of Excellence campaign. He was a former board member of the Cincinnati Zoo, the Anthony Muñoz Foundation and the Youth Service Bureau of St. Joseph County. He also served as co-chair of the Dean’s Advisory Council for Valparaiso University’s College of Business and the Cincinnati Business Committee.
Wainscott also currently serves as chairman of the board of directors of the American Iron and Steel Institute, the Washington, D.C.-based Business Roundtable and the Commercial Club of Cincinnati.
Wainscott is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor and Chartered Financial Analyst. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and has been a board member of the Indiana CPA Society and president of the Northwest Indiana chapter. Wainscott also co-founded the Indiana Dunes Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants.
