LEADERSHIP FROM PANDAVAS

Sri Krishna represents supreme confidence.

The essence of the Mahabharata propounds the significance of positive attitude required in the personality of the leader in order to make him effective. When we talk about the Mahabharata the first thing that comes to our mind is the KURUKSHETRA WAR which is also called DHARMA YUDDHA. The said war is always taking place within us at moments of complexities in performing functions. The negativities in us, the Pandavas represent the positivity in us which are less in number compared to KAURAVAS.

Kauravas are the children of the blind parents. DHRITHARASTHRA and GANDHARI. Blindness represents ignorance and reveals that the negativity and instigations to do wrong things and sins are the outcomes of ignorance. While performing the following certain functions, the negativities which are the outcomes of ignorance will first intrude in the battlefield of decision-making faculty and debilitate with evil thoughts.

The Pandavas that represent the positive qualities are YUDHISHTIRA, BHIMA, ARJUNA, NAKULA and SAHADEVA.

YUDHISHTIRA
The eldest of the Pandavas is Yudhishtira and he is otherwise called DHARMAPUTRA. He represents dharma which means MORALITY.

The first and most prominent quality required of a leader is MORALITY, i.e. ethics and right conduct. PANCHA DHARMA which is the five essential qualities of MORALITY is Love, Humility, Truth, Mercy and Sacrifice. The leader should practice these qualities so that the DHARMA PUTRA will be consecrated in his personality of these, love is the basic value and has the greatest persuasive power. If it is inculcated then it will bring rest of the said essentials.

NAKULA
Nakula represents PLEASING PERSONALITY. Pleasing nature of a person will have an attentional value. A leader who has a pleasing personality will attract people and at the same time will help them to influence and persuade others. Such a leader can be assertive but not arrogant. People will shun leaders who are arrogant and irritating. A pleasing nature of the person will kindle a light on the face of the person and that sparkle will attract the people. Present oneself before others with a smile on the face; that will generate the raise of positivity and the same will boost the morale of the cadre of the leader.

“Have a smile always on your face.”
“Fragrance lingers in the hand that gives the flower.”

SAHADEVA
Sahadeva represents KNOWLEDGE. It really means the magic word “ASK” which represents ATTITUDE, SKILL & KNOWLEDGE. It is observed that many knowledgeable people are not result oriented because knowledge alone is not sufficient to deliver results. Along with the knowledge, suitable skills are to be acquired in order to put that knowledge into action. More importantly the attitude should be cultivated in order to acquire knowledge skill and the performance of the function.

BHIMA
BHIMA represents STRENGTH. It is one of the essentials for the very existence of human beings. It has three main aspects and they are:

• Physical Strength
• Mental Strength
• Intellectual Strength

If the strength is not present then that situation is called WEAKNESS whose outcome is fear and fear is cause of degradation & sin. In the present era of perpetual change & perennial paradox, only those leader who posses the said three strengths will succeed.

ARJUNA

ARJUNA represents CONCENTRATION. It is an absolute necessity in the acquisition of all other qualities. Concentration may be described as focusing attention exclusively on one object. Concentration is essence of all knowledge. A man who has achieved concentration does not commit such mistakes or blunders. Concentration develops will power and confidence. It sharpens the memory and decision making power and enables the person to make the right decisions at the right time. The ‘CHARISMATIC POWER’ will help a person to be effective in his leadership pursuits.

The principle is: “Command yourself, then you may command the world”

The Mahabharata teaches that the confluence of the said Pancha Pandavas i.e. Morality, Strength, Concentration, Pleasing-nature and Knowledge in a personality will build a good leader. Mahabharata teaches why, how, when and where the Morality, Strength, Concentration, Pleasing nature and knowledge that is brought under the control and direction of intellectual faculty are to be acquired.

Contrary to the common perception, the fact is that a perfect balance bet. Spiritual & material life makes a leader; this is called Subjective approach through objective adjustments.
