General Information:-

Khadi is a handspun and hand woven cloth made in India from cotton, silk and woolen yarn. It may be a mixture of two or all such yarns. It started with the spinning on Takli, later on 2 – Spindle new model Charkha, 4 – Spindle, 6 – Spindle, 8 – Spindle, 10 – Spindle and 12 – Spindle new model charkhas have been introduced in spinning of khadi yarn. Likewise a number of handlooms including Wardha loom, Gram Laxmi loom and Pit loom are in operation in weaving khadi cloth. Khadi, the handspun and hand woven material is very comfortable to wear since air can pass through easily. It prevents skin rash etc. and is more comfortable when compared to the artificially made synthetic fabrics like Nylons, Rayon’s, and Terylene etc.


KVIC’s institutions produce very fine variety of various handspun and hand woven materials in cotton, silk, and mixture of both i.e. cotton and silk, cotton and polyester, woolen and polyester etc.


Cotton Khadi is 100% cotton which has a great demand abroad and it is available in different shades and colors. Attractive readymade garments are being designed in the form Kurta- Pajama, shirts, Ghagra Choli, Salwar-Kammeez and other attractive garments.
