JOY OF GIVING WEEK KICKS OFF IN IIMA
The Joy of Giving Week took off with a bang on October 2nd at IIMA. Organized by IIMA's social initiative club Prayaas, the program is aimed at recognizing and encouraging those who give back to the society and work for the upliftment of the underprivileged. The week started off with a painting competition on Wednesday, a painting competition held for children from various NGOs in and around the campus. The paintings are scheduled to be put on display and auctioned, the proceeds of which will be used to help the underprivileged kids.
IIM Ahmedabad is also proud to organize two very special events as part of the Joy of Giving Celebrations – A Day@IIMA and the Surabhi cultural night.
A Day@IIMA will see the campus opened up to outsiders to soak in the life at IIMA. 50 members of the general public and members from 20 NGOs will get the chance to experience a day in the life of an IIM student. Participants in this event will get to attend classes, take part in a mock quiz, club interactions, solve cases and will finally be given a guided tour of the campus by students of IIM Ahmedabad themselves!
IIMA is a staunch believer that it's not the magnitude or nature of contribution but the thought and love behind it that counts. In keeping with that belief, A Day@IIMA will have participants who are devoted to making a change in the society to the best of their capacity. Therefore, IIMA will be throwing its doors open to those members who are striving to contribute to society in their own way and not just people who are able to make monetary donations (as is the model generally used elsewhere). This model emphasizes IIMA's view that giving is not restricted to monetary contributions. As Mother Teresa said, it is not how much one gives but the love one puts into giving that counts.
The event will also see a grand ensemble performance by IIMA students towards the close of the week on Monday, October 7th, 2013. Surabhi, the cultural program put together by the music, dance and theatre clubs of IIM Ahmedabad, will see students across various programmes in the institute take the stage and perform live for the audience. Considering the rich pool of creative and artistic talent found among students on the campus, this night promises to be an exciting one. The night will see award-winning performances by IIM A's own music and dramatics troupes that have earned them much praise nationally.
The program is open to the general public for a nominal fee, the proceeds of which will go into funding the various activities run by Prayaas during and after the Joy of Giving Week.
