Are The big jewelry companies showing their desperation in this Economy with their overly sentimental advertising blitz?

These commercials are ridiculous. It never happens that way in real life. A wife would slap his husband if he spent $1000 on a diamond for her, when they could spend that money on things that are desperately needed. What they probably should do instead is say "Before the economy takes its final death spin give the ones you love something which will hold value even after currency is worthless. Give them diamonds or gold. They'll thank you when they exchange them for bread in March

80% of the diamond market go to American women according to a 60 minutes episode when they were talking about the De beers company and Blood diamonds.

As long as American woman have a pallet for this over abundance rock where the supply is artificially controlled by De Beers as though its rare, the marketing blitz where never end and businesses will not go out of business.

Don't be fooled. Women like shiny things.
