The rising number of women smokers has become a cause of concern. WHO's theme for this year, "Gender and tobacco with an emphasis on marketing to women" is particularly designed to draw attention to the harmful effects of tobacco marketing towards women and girls. There is a considerable increase in smokers among literate women, especially young college girls.
 
I think this is the prime reason for surge in women to smoking and also stress is a factor here and also girls think they are cool by having a cigarette in their hand. I think it has to do with several Companies who are running campaigns where they are targeting women into smoking, also it’s a cause of concern that literate women in sectors like business, medicine, BPO besides college girls from the higher strata of the society are getting addicted to the habit.

When educated women start smoking the effects are more dangerous bcos they know the side effects of the bad habit. Companies should come forward to stop this spreading bad habit which is going to impact the society in a big way. When women smoke it will affect the entire family. This is a dangerous trend and it must be curbed at early stage.

yes, indeed the percentage of female smokers has increased specially among young professionals. the reason is modern world anxiety, work load and to some extent personal problems. but they should be aware about the harmful effects of tobacco not to them but for the future baby. by smoking they are destroying two lives at a time.
 
The number of female smokers going up is clearly reflected in the number of Indian companies launching women specific products such as slim cigarettes & flavored cigs...i guess the trend will only be more pronounced form here
 
Just as women are catching up with men in all aspects of life, the habit of smoking is also fast growing among women. Smoking is on the rise among women; the independent and working professionals make a huge segment of women smokers. Its become a part of their lifestyle. Its used as a way to get vent out life's frustrations and insecurities.

yes there is a huge increase in the no. of women smokers in india due to various reasons like liberty and freedom,stress,proximity to male colleagues who smoke,mismanagement of relations,etc,.
 
yes there is increase in smoking along with consumption of alcohol which is a factor that increases cigarettes smoked per day

yes, the number of female smokers is increasing at a fast rate in our country. it may be because of the cultural change or the pressure of work.
 
Yaaa definately, as far as Mumbai is concerned ...I see lot of women and young girls smoking on the road besides a famous foood joint or anywhere else... These women are largely of Higher-middle class or rich women ...
Although college going girls, along with their male counterparts can also be seeen ... having fun and smoking the buds one after the other ...
This is highly contagious ... because the impact of foreign culture is increasing day by day, and Smoking can cause rather serious health problems in women in the future.
It is not just about Smoking, it is about HOW COOL YOU'RE and WHAT STATUS YOU HAVE GOT in your peers ... If you don't smoke ... if you don't drink ... then you're a spoil sport !! This is how it goes ....
And I'm sure it doesn't just stop at Smoking or drinking. More and More girls have moved towards drugs ... which is very easy to get anywhere ...but not so easy to Get rid of it!
