:argue:

This topic refers to the war of words exchanged between the players of the India and pakistan cricket team.
sledging actually refers to agressive language

What is your take in it ??
does sledging adds excitment to the game of cricket?
OR
does it spoil the spirit of the game?

hmm... SLEDGING.........wellllllll...it defenitely spoils the spirit of the game ...and the ICC is doin the right thing by keeping an eye on such stuffs n takin appropriate actions against the same... though i think..the actions are a lot more strict thn it should b...even thn... its obv...tht no sledgin has 2 b done bet 2 teams...may it b india - pak or neother 2 teams.. the game is played as a sport and not a fight bet 2 countries... its in such a good spirit one plays n sing aggresive n abusive languages defenitely spoils the image of the team n game spirit.. ( India main sab jagah chalta hai fir bhi..lols.. in locals i mean 2 say..hehe)..

I guess a little bit of sledging gets more action and vigour in the game..

It shouldnt go to extremes, but yes.. a little bit .. definately encouraged..

Bowlers can get the batsman excited by abuse and then the batsman goes for big shots and ultimately lands up getting caught or bowled in most cases.

Mind gamez, I say.. nothing wrong with it.. definately encouraged !!

well yes !!! i totally agree with kartik. it is all mind games. the basic motive behind sledging is to disturb the batsman's rythm and if the bowler is succesful in doin tht, he is more likely to take a wicket.....

but sledging shud b restricted to only tryin nd disturbin the batsmen rathar thn abusing or using slangs to make the batsmen angry....in both the cases the bowler stands to win...but as sportsmanspirit goes it shud b done in a controlled manner....

hey...but if u hve a cool batsmen like our very own Wall Rahul Dravid, then no kind of sledging in the world is gonna help coz u only need to bowl exceptionaly well to get him out....

Totally agree on major stuff out here.. Sledging has become a part of the game today.. As the play is followed by major audience more enthusiasm nd aggresiveness tends to follow along.. The question asked is there a place for sledging in cricket well answer yes. Its a human nature to be revertin back to lifes decision majorly so it should be taken with a good spirit.. But going beyond tht shall surely hamper the game nd the players on a long tenure.. :tea:

yea to a extent its ok not more than that..................

Sledging shd be there but it shdn't disturb the moral of the game and rapport between the countries. As all of us know India and Pakistan are always fighting with each other and i think by cricket and other games we can resolve this conflict. The players should keep this in mind and play their gentleman's game...

hello guys ,
i dont agree

cricket game is the place where in u need to show your experiences, excellence and dedication in your play rather then using slang words.
if you want to disturb the player or want to break his concentration do it by bowling the best ball or by hitting good shots.
while doing so where does sledging come into picture.

even taking this into consideration icc banned sledging in the game of cricket.
they are the ones who know much more then any of us in this forum and they have done what should be.

i dont agree with it.

I Wouldnt agree with kartik raithatha..

That the IIC knows more than us is just an assumption.

Secondly showcasing experience and excellence is agreeable, and to support that one can always use his witts.

Anger on the part of the batsman is his weakness and the bowler has every right to exploit that weakness.

Just like if you pitch the ball to a certain height and a certain length and whatsover pace is agreeable, even if it breaks the helmet of the batsman, I think its only fair that a little bit of mind games are allowed

Also, I think Mr. raithatha has confused the meaning of sledging. It is not alwayz abusive language but aggressive .

As long as cricket is taken from the perspective of entertainment sport, I say.. everything is fair in love, war and cricket .

Sledging's fine to an extent........adds excitement to the proceedings.

Here are a couple of gems:

McGrath to Sarwan: "How's Brian lara's d1ck today?"
Sarwan: "How would I know? Ask your wife"

And I don't quite know whom this interaction took place between, but the bowler just bowled a ferocious bouncer which went right past the batsman's nose. The bowler said, "It's round, red and made of leather"
The batsman hit the next ball out of the ground for six and told the bowler, "You know what it looks like. Now go find it".

sledging is today getting bigger and ICC is taking steps in order to control it. the famous examples of sleding observed are
"slater-dravid"
"Mcgrath-Sarwan"
" Umar gul - yuvraj singh" -2006
"mohammed sami- sehwag" - 2006
and many more .

sledging is ofcourse exciting to us as viewers of cricket. the excitement grows and its a human tendency that such stuff makes the cricket more exciting.

however it should be noted that such sledging harms the spirit of the game. when players start sledging, it gets too hot on the field. they lose their concentartion.

to make the game more exciting ICC must take some steps. so that the excitement is maintained on the field aswell as off the field.

to stop sledging, the various boards (pcb, bcci, acb, ecb.......) should impose some sort of penalty so as to keep the players calm.

captains of the fielding team must be calm and able to control his players. a very good example here is of Inzamam-ul-haq who played a crucial role to stop umar- gul and yuvraj singh during their arguements. when yuvraj and gul were arguing, inzy tlked with both of them and later yuvraj and gul were seen shaking hands. this is good for the spirit of the game.

thus i feel sleding should not be having a place in cricket
