Is economic driving the politics or vice versa?

I feel economics is driving the politics

1.If the country economy is in a good shape, there will be very likely chances for the ruling party to win the election next time. The recent reduction in petrol and diesel prices are mainly cos of political reasons. Moreover, budget can make or break a Govt.

2.Another example wud be US.One of the reasons for the Iraq war wud be OIL reserves in ME region.Amid stiff opposition,Bush waged war because of the hidden Economy there.

Pour your thoughts.

economy do play an important role in politics but as far as winning the election is concerned that depends on how ruling party communicate to the people about economic progress and direct the general perception of public towards benefit of economy and part of govt support for that.

well.....i differ on this account...i dont think so.....that economic conditions determine the outcome of elections, ya it do affect the outcome but is nt the single influencing factor, for the very best example cud be of previous bjp regime at center, economy was progressing so rapidly, yet the BJP lost the general elections, similarly in the states, we have goan example, the biggest factor is anti-incumbency which cud be favorable or unfavorble for the ruling party....

To my mind Econpomics are not driving the politics, I would rather say that politics is driving ecomomy, bcz there are lots of cases where politics has created a hurdle in economie's way. for instance we can take Singur issue, in which Mamta Benergee created problems, we can take the reservsation issue, etc...................

I believe ECONOMICS n POLITICS go hand in hand..... the economic status of an economy depend on its politics n vice-versa......the practical xampl is than when a govt.chnge the stock market also trembles!!!
but ofcource now the political ppl c to it that the economy runs!! coz this will help them 2 grow 2!!
"if inside sources r 2 b belived....HILLARY CLINTON's CAMPAIGN FUNDS ALSO HAVE CONTRIBUTERS FRM THE INDIA(ace businessman)!!!!"

In the United States the state of the economy has a lot to do with who is in the executive office. The economy is a very important aspect of political life as the economy is a very widespread indicator of economic prosperity in the country. If the economy is bad, the people will be suffering. Whenever there was a economic crisis, United States population rallied behind a leader that had a solution or projected that he had the right solution to fix the economy. During the Great Depression it was Franklin D. Roosevelt, during the 80s it was Ronald Reagan, and now it is President Obama. A lot of political power can be captured in times of crisis. The faith in the executive branch could be misplaced because many experts say that the powers of the executive branch does not much influence in the welfare of the economy

On the one hand, in the developed markets, economies are not operating at capacity. On the other, when you get to developing markets, they are operating at or above capacity, and that's creating challenges like inflation.
