is CSR for big companies only

its not mandatory i guess.
Responsibilty rests upon everyone be it small or big.
Obviously, bigger companies can afford more and can invest more on CSR activities.
Example: Companies like Vodafone does by using the recycled phones and making it possible for people in rural areas to use it.
But unfortunately in India, CSR is mostly done to save taxes and still bigger companies need to focus more on it rather then just on their profits.

The CSR activities of big companies are publicized the most leading to this perception however small companies being playing their part in improving out social and environmental fabric .

CSR is by choice!
and anyone can have CSR! the size of the company can only effect the amount of CSR ....

No CSRs are all socially relevant activities undertaken by a company. A corporate could seek to influence the society through financial contributions which form a majority of CSR activities. Its difficult for small companies to contribute financially due to lack of recources. But a company could try to increase awareness through their various communication regarding socially relevant issues. But a challenge faced here is a small company generally lacks credibility and is hence unable to influence the society. it also has a small consumer base and thus the penetration of the idea is limited. But a strategic partnership with an NGO or other agencies could help bring credibility to the campaign.

An advantage that a small company has over a big corporation is that consumers tend to consider big corporates as pillars of selfish capitalism and tend to believe all their actions are led by profit earning opportunities including CSRs. Thus it might lead to negative publicity for the company.

I don't really think so....In todays competitive era 'i think this is one of the ways co. can differtiate themselves from their competitors....every co. has some responsibilities toward the stakeholders and the society in whole...so it is one of the necesseties for almost every co.

Small companies need to primarily focus on getting a strong foothold in the industry and all their financial, human and other resources are directed towards this goal. As the company gets well-established, it can focus more on CSR. However, even a small company can contribute to CSR in small ways like :
1) Abiding by the laws of the land and carrying on ethical business
2) Taking proper care of its employees needs and providing a nurturing culture
3) Donations to orphanages, charitable institutions, etc.
4) Taking up maintenance of green patches, road divider gardens, etc.
5) Organising blood and organ donation drives, etc.

i dont think CSR is only for big companies...
there are many ways to perform CSR in an economical way.
companies can perfrom CSR activities according to its magnitude..
