Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to bat first against the defending champions Mumbai Indians in their first home game in IPL 7.

Needing 169 runs to register their first win in IPL 7, Mumbai Indians lost Ben Dunk early thanks to some brilliant wicketkeeping skills from Wridhiman Saha. Rayudu and C M Gautam played some risky cricket to up the run-rate following Dunk's dismissal. But Rayudu fell victim to Sanddep Sharma's brilliant in-cutter. Earlier, Kings XI Punjab put up 168 runs on the board after electing to bat first. Kings XI Punjab made a watchful start with Cheteshwar Pujara hogging most of the strike. He hit some crisp boundaries in the first 2 overs. But in the third over he lost his opening partner Virender Sehwag as Rohit Sharma's brilliant pick up and direct hit ended Sehwag's stay in the middle. Following Sehwag's dismissal, Mumbai Indians struck once again to get Pujara put in the 4th over.

Maxwell and Wridhiman Saha took their time to settle in as Mumbai Indians restricted the run flow quite effectively during the major part of first 10 overs. Maxwell though still managed to chip in with some big hits as KXIP scored 71 runs in first 10 overs. But in his attempt to up the ante, Maxwell holed out in the deep off the bowling of Harbhajan Singh. Following Maxwell's dismissal, Wridihman Saha broke the shackles and launched into the Mumbai Indians bowling attack. He and Bailey scored some quick runs. Bailey though failed to last long as Harbhajan got him out. KXIP eventually managed to score 168 runs in their quota of 20 overs.

Kings XI Punjab did not make any changes in the team that played in their previous game. Mumbai Indians dropped Pragyan Ojha and brough in Jasprit Bumrah. Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians are the bottom-ranked team in IPL 7 with 5 losses in as many games. Their batsmen have disappointed and their bowlers have failed to perform well consistently. But as IPL 7 returns to India, MI management would hope that the things get better for their team.

For Kings XI Punjab, they have not put a foot wrong in IPL 7 thus far. And their skipper George Bailey would be hoping that the same continues to happen as IPL 7 arrives in India following its UAE leg.
