Interview Placement Coordinator

Meet Shahanawaz Sagar[/b] (or Shaan[/b] as he is more popularly known), one of the student placement coordinators this year (2012-13). We have a short chat with the guy who is also the President of the RVCE- ISHRAE (Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers) chapter and also a senior engineer in Team Vyoma.

So could you tell us how the placements have been going on this year? How many companies have visited the campus?

The placement process started on Aug 1, 2011. One season of placement is over. The second has just started. Many companies have already visited the campus. L&T Powai, John Deere, Bajaj, Oracle, Schneider, Bosch, Honda, Z S Associates are the notable ones. Till date, a 100 odd companies have visited RVCE for the placement process.

Are students opting for core jobs or are they opting for finance, business analytics and other jobs?

It all depends on the interest of an individual, the pay packages offered and the company profile. Being the Placement Coordinator of the Mechanical Department, I find that Mech/IEM students generally opt for core mechanical profiles and look for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) companies. However, many people always have the tendency to incline towards tech/techo-managerial/management jobs.

Has the recession in the west in any way affected placements this year?

Recession as such didn’t affect placements much. Comparatively, the number of companies visiting are more than last year. Many new companies visited for the first time for recruitment process in RVCE. Initially, they used to prefer only IIT and NIT colleges.

Which company offered the highest package and how much was the moolah?

The highest package was offered by Amazon . They offered about INR 18 lakhs. Goldman Sachs and Yahoo offered around 12 lakhs.

Any big companies that are coming over to campus in the coming days?

IBM and BEL (Bharat Electronics Limited) are confirmed to visit by the end of this month.

What was the funniest placement incident that has happened this year?

Each day there is fun in the placement process. The fun part includes company people (company presentations),students asking random questions to them and atlast Placement Coordinators (or PCs as they are known) having fun with students about the process at the end of the day.

How has the experience of being a placement coordinator helped you?

Being a PC, i’m transforming from an individual to an Institution. Everyday, I meet people from esteemed companies. They share their experiences of being a part of their company. Its an ongoing endless learning process of things related with corporate culture, expectations from an individual, career growth etc.

Also being a PC and coordinating with students in large number (thanks to my PC friends) helped me to know more about everyone has their own vision in life. However PC position is not an authority but its more about responsibilities (my PC friends know well about this)

.

What is your opinion on RVCE Updates?

Regarding RVCE updates, I really your work. Sometimes after the busy day, I usually check on what happening in the college. Do persist with this. Thank you

An Interview Placement Coordinator plays a crucial role in the recruitment process of an organization, acting as a liaison between candidates and hiring managers. This position requires a blend of organizational skills, communication prowess, and a deep understanding of the recruitment process. The primary responsibility of an Interview Placement Coordinator is to manage the scheduling of interviews, ensuring that the logistics of the interview process run smoothly. This includes coordinating with multiple stakeholders, such as HR representatives, department heads, and candidates, to find mutually convenient times for interviews. Beyond scheduling, the coordinator is often involved in preparing interview materials, conducting preliminary screenings, and sometimes even participating in the interview process to assess candidates' suitability for the role.

Effective communication is paramount for an Interview Placement Coordinator, as they must convey important information clearly and professionally to all parties involved. This includes providing candidates with detailed information about the company, the role they are applying for, and what to expect during the interview process. Additionally, the coordinator must maintain a positive and welcoming demeanor, as they are often the first point of contact for candidates, and their interactions can significantly influence a candidate's perception of the company.

In today's fast-paced business environment, an Interview Placement Coordinator must also be adept at using various recruitment tools and technologies. This includes managing applicant tracking systems (ATS), scheduling software, and digital communication platforms. These tools help streamline the recruitment process, allowing the coordinator to manage a high volume of candidates efficiently and effectively. Moreover, staying updated with the latest recruitment trends and best practices is essential for ensuring that the organization attracts and retains top talent.

The role of an Interview Placement Coordinator extends beyond just the interview stage. They are often involved in the entire recruitment lifecycle, from sourcing candidates to onboarding new hires. This involves tracking candidate progress through each stage of the hiring process, providing feedback to hiring managers, and ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner. By maintaining a high level of organization and attention to detail, an Interview Placement Coordinator contributes significantly to the success of the recruitment process and helps to build a strong and capable workforce for the organization.
