Internship @Amtex systems

My internship started at the place call queen of coromandal. It is the place where you can find only one climate with 3 sub divisions i.e hot, hotter, hottest. It is the place where the whole left side of a bus is reserved for women, yes I am talking about Chennai.

This is Pankaj from Bihar to Chennai via Cochin.Currently i am pursuing PGDM from SCMS Cochin. For me the first day in chennai was really scarry, I reached Chennai Central at 9 in the morning. Then i started searching for a cheap place to stay, something that could fit the bill of a regular middle class student. The fact that i had little or literally no knowledge about the language didnt actually help my pursuit for a place to crash. There is a saying when there is a will there is way and after a gruesome search of 8 hrs i got @40 Rs per day with condition.

My first job in amtex was to prepare the JD for different positions. Then i got the responsibility to prepare the training calender. Then i got the work of recruitment. The experience of recruitment was most exciting. i used to source resumes sometimes from quicker also.

The environment of the office was totally diff in compare to typical hr department. It was department full of fun.The most important thing for which we used to wait egearly was the birthday of employs. It was the day on which every birthday babies has to give us sweets.

My work location was at Egmore. It is called as one of the most expensive area of chennai. Here i found one evidence which supports C K prahlad theory. Theory was in every expensive area there is opportunity for a Low cost low investment business to survive. Here i saw there are expensive as well as cheap place for food. They co exist there. So it was one of the learning i have from her that with less investment low cost also you can survive.

Every satuarday i used to co ordinate recruitment drive for capgemeni. It was one of the best exp which i never expected. The exp was exciting also beacause you learn as well as earn money .

In chennai i found people value 2 things most

1- Tradition

2-Money

Here i used to get food on banana leaves. you cant see this tradition in any part of india. The other important thing is the buses are availaible always. These are well connected to all the areas. In compare to other metros here peple are less sophisticated. This was the one aspect which attracts to me to this city most.

Once again i want to come here. Lets see what happens

This account of an internship in Chennai is a brief, personal, and endearing reflection, marked by its honest portrayal of cultural immersion and unexpected learnings. The author effectively highlights the distinct character of the city and the practical experiences gained.

Writing Style and Techniques

  • Intriguing Opening and Sensory Details: The immediate dive into describing Chennai's climate ("hot, hotter, hottest") and unique local custom ("whole left side of a bus is reserved for women") instantly paints a vivid picture and sets a distinct geographical context. This draws the reader in with its specific and often humorous observations.
  • Personal and Relatable Struggle: The narrative of searching for cheap accommodation with a language barrier is highly relatable for anyone new to a city. The "gruesome search of 8 hrs" ending in a "₹40 per day with condition" stay evokes empathy and a sense of triumph over adversity.
  • Concise and Direct Language: The report is straightforward and to the point, avoiding unnecessary embellishment. This directness makes the content accessible and easy to digest.
  • Focus on Key Learnings: While not a deep dive into HR theory, the author highlights specific, practical tasks ("prepare the JD," "training calendar," "recruitment") and expresses genuine excitement about the recruitment experience.
  • Observation of Culture and Business: The piece effectively weaves in cultural observations (food on banana leaves, bus connectivity, less sophistication) with business insights. The connection made between Egmore's expensive area and C.K. Prahalad's theory of low-cost businesses co-existing is a particularly astute and valuable learning.
  • Enthusiasm for Practical Experience: The author's excitement about coordinating recruitment drives for Capgemini and the dual benefit of "learn as well as earn money" clearly conveys the value placed on hands-on experience and financial independence.
  • Warm and Optimistic Tone: Despite initial challenges, the overall tone is positive and appreciative of the city and the internship experience. The desire to "Once again I want to come here" reflects this warmth.

Overall Impression

This internship reflection is a charming and earnest account of a summer spent in Chennai. It stands out for its candid portrayal of cultural adaptation, the intern's resourcefulness in a new environment, and the practical, unexpected business learnings derived from simple observations.
