Not absolutely, but reasonably safe. Any one who wants to operate it from home can go for it, it is easy to operate banking transactions, and stock transactions on the net, rules are simple:-
1. use only a secure PC. do not do this at PCOs and cyber cafe's.
2. get the PC scanned and swept on a daily basis.
3. All banks now have the facility of "virtual keyboard" Use it.
4. some banks have a double security by sending you a timed code on your mobile for authentication- opt for it
5. change passwords regularly- one bank of mine wants in every 14 days.

but there are many cases that clarifies a number of wrong transaction and then the account goes off.

Not only India, but its not safe across all the countries. Hackers are always one step ahead of the security. Moreover one has to take many precautionary steps to access internet safely. Which is not always possible, you may forget to update your antivirus, you may be using unsecured internet etc.,

I don't have/know a best possible solution, but all the nations must discuss and put standards in place.

Nowadays, Internet banking is very useful even in India and it is safe also. Most of the websites provides internet operations over secure socket layer which encrypts your volatile information like CC Number and other info before sending it to the merchan server for processing.

Compared to international level
the internet banking senerio in india
is very premature.

The internet banking of new generation banks
are much attractive than nationalised banks.
Still the security is the main issue and user education
must improve

Ya. Till today I am highly satisfy with the system, security of internet banking. There are reputed banks which adopts high encryption standers and anti hack portals. Moreover what are transactions done in to our account is notified with SMS and emails. Only limitations is updation of passwords.

Users education must improve to solve such problem. Internet banking is safe in India, no doubt.

I've banked online for years with YES BANK. I'd say it's really safe as long as you are aware. I'm using Internet Banking and faced no problems till date. If you are making banking transactions that do take place over the Internet, make sure that your bank is using high-end encryption.

I would like to say that it's actually secure so long as you are conscious and alert. I have been using Internet Banking for the last 4 years and experienced no issues. Just we need to take some precautions like do not use public computer, change the password, use updated antivirus and delete all cookies and use latest browsers.
