Insight is 1 event whole student fraternity waits for Pratik Mukherjee

1. How would you describe yourself and your institute?

I am Pratik Mukherjee from Calcutta. I [/i]completed my B.Sc. with Maths (Hons) from St. Xavier’s College followed by a Masters of Computer Applications from Jadavpur University. At TCS, I led projects for a UK based Telecom Client. Currently a PGP-2 student, I have diverse interests ranging from Marketing to Strategic planning.[/i]

IIM-A for me, is a holy grail, where I learnt the true meaning of excellence in terms of Knowledge, discipline and commitment. It happened at the right time in my career and the lessons learnt here, would be useful to me, for the rest of my life.[/i]

2. What are the events at IIM-A? According to you which is the most happening and why?

Among the plethora of events that happen at IIMA, Insight, the Marketing Research fest is the one event that the whole student fraternity waits for. It includes Marketing Research workshop by AC Nielsen as well as Start-up based events like Productomania, where teams come up with videos based on the start-ups products and services.

3. Was IIM-A your dream MBA Institute ? What efforts/plans did you have in your mind to achieve it?

Yes, definitely, IIM-A was the one place I wanted to study, one day. During my stint in TCS, I realized the importance of getting management education from the best place in the country and worked towards it. It was not only about clearing CAT but also about developing my overall personality, in tune with the high standards set by this place.

4. Would you like to share few tips to crack CAT and GDPI aspirants who also see IIM-A as their dream Institute?

Dedication, single focused mind-set towards achieving you goal is the only mantra. Other than regular Quants, DI and VA practice, also speak to MBAs, listen to their experiences. This would give you an idea about, what is expected from you. You can then try to improve yourself and build your personality accordingly.

5. How would you, as an MBA bring about a change in management practices and thoughts over time?

I believe in team-work. Mostly, I see corporate houses as being leader-driven rather than being team-driven. Very little amount of brain-storming happens at the grass-root level while making strategic corporate decisions. I would like to inculcate inclusive decision-making as part of corporate decision making process.

6. If you was to choose an Organization of your choice to Work for ____? Which one would it be and Why?

My prime interest area being Marketing and Strategy, I would definitely like to work for a company, where I can contribute towards developing Marketing strategies for the companies’ services and products and build its future growth and expansion strategies.

7. What do you feel about the management education in India and abroad? Do you feel there lies the difference if yes then in what ways?

Yes, there is a huge difference among the peer group, you find at the respective B-Schools. In foreign b-schools since Work Experience is mandatory for one to get through, you find more peer-to-peer learning happening through their own real life experiences, in comparison to Indian B-Schools, where the learning is mostly classroom driven, as there are an equal number of freshers in Indian B-Schools.
