The Planning Commission has in an affidavit to the Supreme Court said that Rs. 25 per day was sufficient for a person living in a rural area for their expenditure on food, education and health.

The panel told the apex court that after adjusting for inflation, the rural poverty line was pegged at Rs. 25 per day, which ensures the adequacy of actual private expenditure.

The panel said that individuals spending of Rs. 32 per day in the cities fall in the Above Poverty Line (ABL) category.

Weird Enough

Mere calculations with numbers will not represent the status of individuals, this show how the govt has worked on his plans all these years.

I'm not sure about this statistic but it is said that nearly half of India's population live with a daily income of less of 20rs, this was the most disheartening thing to be known considering the fact that India will soon overcome Japan to takeover as the 3rd largest economy.

its according to Parliament menu card where netas are having feast at 5 rs so they can say even further that rs 25 is enough for 2 days of wholesome meal

It's weird no doubt! But you shouldn't only judge it on the basis of expensive town life.

Probably this can be made justifiable with a little bit of mathematics:

Let's suppose per capita income to be Rs. 25 for a household of 4 members.

Now the earning per day per house is Rs.100 and for a rural area resident with proper management this can be just sufficient for basic needs. However, if any one of the family members involves in drinking and gambling then I don't have anything to say.

I only mean to say that for rural people (means they don't buy everything from the market like city dwellers and most of the times they grow vegetables, at least, for their own consumption) this can be made just enough for basic needs. This might not be pragmatic as the people tend to smoke tobaccos, drink and gamble and waste money in unnecessary purposes at the expense of their basic needs!

What's your view on this little household calculation? Think carefully and reply me!
