Importance of a Second / Thousandth of a Second
An average man moves 1.5 meter per second, and water in plain land river, air by a moderate wind passes 5 meters per second. Snail moves 1.5 millimeters per second. Man is 1000 times swifter than snail. If happened to race with other animals he would be slower. Fly is 3 times faster than pedestrian. A skilled skater moves 10 meter per second. Only few animals can past him. A man on horseback can gallop at a speed of 15-20 meters; pace can literally on outrange the wind, because strong wind rarely blows at more than 20 meters per second. Metaphor “to go like the wind” is not very much exaggeration to horses. Birds generally are swift fliers.
In 1896 at Pris-Brest rally has achieved 20kmph. Means 6 meters per second. That was a triumph of those times. Traveling in a car, an express train, an airplane we can easily outdistance a horse, a dog, or a swallow and even a hurricane, which travels at more than 30 metes pre second. The appreciation of the air speed in a hurricane not that, if u through a stone with all your might during the first second it will travel at about half the speed of a hurricane about 15 meters per sec.
The same if you see from the angle of time a thousandth of a second is nothing for human. The time invariably can be measured only to crop up in course of our practical works. When the people used to reckon the time according to the sun’s position, length of the shadow they paid no importance to know the need of minutes considering then even unworthy of measurements. The tenor of life in ancient time is unhurried that the time pieces, sundials and water clocks, sand glasses has no special division of minutes. In the early 18th century the minutes hand came to existence and seconds hand sweep came in to 150 yrs ago.
What would happen in the 1000th of second? Can ever you have a thought about it? Very much indeed true? An ordinary train would cover 3 cms per second. But sound would already fly 33 cms and an Airplane half a meter. In its orbital movement around the sun earth would travel 30 meters. Light would cover the great distance of 300 km per second. compare with minute the 1000th of a second is negligible amount of time. But for insects its a tangible interval space of a second, mosquito flags its wings 500-600 times, consequently in the spare of a 1000th of a second it would may either raise its wing or lower them. We can’t move our limbs as faster than insects. The fastest thing we can do is blink our eyes. This takes place so quickly that we fail even to notice transient obscurity of our field of vision. Few know through that this movement in the twinkling of an eye which has become synonymous for incredible rapidity. A full twinkling of our eyes averages as exact measurement two-fifths of a second which give us 400 thousandth of a second. It’s a quite considerable time interval during whichever the eyelid even manages to take rest. If we could photograph mentally impressions lasting thousandth of a sec. we could catch in the twinkling of an eye. Two smooth motions of eyelid. We could completely able to transform the picture we get of the world around us. We see the odd and curious things. That is the significance of Vision.
