
Global Entrepreneurship Summit'11
Close on the heels of the Entrepreneurship Awareness Drive in which 15 cities were covered in October and November, Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kharagpur is back with our flagship event - The Global Entrepreneurship Summit - 2011. To be held from 14-16 January at IIT Kharagpur, it is one of the biggest entrepreneurial events of its kind in India
This year’s summit revolves around the grassroots theme of “Empowering the Next Billion – Entrepreneurship and Innovation” which is all about taking entrepreneurship to the masses. Rural India abounds in potential, which is mostly untapped. We will showcase the prowess of rural innovations to India and the world through our workshop on Rural Innovation in which innovators from the length and breadth of rural India have been invited. We are also having an expert panel discussion on Rural Innovation – Opportunities and the Road Ahead.
The Startup-Camp is one of the star attractions of the event. It will be showcasing some of India's hottest startups and providing them a platform to reach out. The startups will also be offering jobs and internships to interested students who seek to know the ins and outs of how things go about in a startup. There are around 35 start ups participating this time. There will be a panel discussion of Venture Capitalists and Angel Investors to which our competition finalists and participating start ups can pitch and get advice on the tricks of the trade.
Our competitions include Concipio, Envision, Eclairez, Negocio, Cleantech Challenge and Pensez. All competition winners get funding from investors and government grants up to Rs.60 lakhs to take their ideas to the next stratum.
Apart from the competitions, the highlights of GES are the workshops and guest lectures. The lineup of past speakers boasts of Vinod Dham, Arjun Malhotra, Prof. Iqlakh Sidhu, and Dominique Trempont among others. The speakers for last year were Director of Open University, UK Prof. Richard Kemp and IIM-A Professor and NIF chairman Anil Gupta. Mr. Shankar Maruwada, of UIDAI project of India fame and whose story has been chronicled in Rashmi Bansal’s “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish” will be speaking at GES’11. Mr. Maruwada founded Marketics, a provider of Marketing Analytics which was sold for an estimated $65 million in 2007. He is currently working on the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) is an ambitious project by Government of India to give every Indian Citizen a unique identification. There will also be a number of general and specialized workshops aimed at the junta and the start ups respectively.
