IIMA alumni set up a trust to enhance IIMA Brand

The IIMA Alumni has set up an IIMA Alumni Trust to enhance the IIMA Brand. The Trust plans to sponsor specific activities like scholarships to underprivileged students, research grants to faculty and students, funding of seminars, publications and endowing chairs, and funding physical and soft infrastructure.

Towards the first initiative, IIMA Alumni Trust has offered four merit cum means scholarships to deserving students in the first year of the 2-year post graduate programme (PGP) at IIMA. These scholarships are named after Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Prof. Ravi Mathai, Prof. S.K. Bhattacharya and Prof. Kamla Chaudhry. Each scholarship is of Rs. 50,000.

Prof. Bakul Dholakia, Director of IIMA, awarded these scholarships to Mr. Pranav Kumar, Ms. Shruti Kapoor, Mr. Vikramaditya Narendra and Ms. Anupama Jangid in a function held at Ravi Mathai Auditorium on 14th November 2006 in the presence of the IIMA Alumni, the faculty and the students.

Mr. K.N. Vaidyanathan, a PGP 85 batch alumnus and the Coordinator of the Advisory Council of IIMA Alumni Trust said, this is the first of the series of initiatives that we plan to work with the Institute and we believe there is no better catalyst than a scholarship to energize Alumni to participate in the partnership.

It may be recalled here that earlier this year, IIMA received an endowment of Rs. 1 Crore from Warburg Pincus. This amount will be used over the next ten years by the Institute to support the financial needs of students who are unable to afford fully or partially the cost of education at IIMA. Several of the firm’s partners and professionals are alumni of IIMA. Pulak Prasad and Rajesh Khanna, both Managing Directors of Warburg Pincus and also the alumni of IIMA, were instrumental in this initiative.
