IIM Kozhikode presents Mini Marathon 2011

Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, in association with Usha school of Athletics and District Sports Council proudly present “Federal Bank Calicut Mini Marathon 2011[/b]”- the only mini marathon of the city.The marathon will see thousands running shoulder to shoulder on the 6th of February 2011. With the theme “Transforming Lives”, the event will aim to mobilize the public to take up the cause of educating underprivileged children and creating awareness and sensitivity about the issue of social inclusiveness of differently abled children. All donations from the marathon will go to a few select NGOs in and around Calicut who are working for the cause.
The second edition of the Federal Bank Calicut Mini-marathon was launched with great aplomb on 18th January 2011. The launch was conducted in the Conference Hall within the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode Campus and was well attended by dignitaries ranging from the Director of the institute to the President of the District Sports Council.
The Marathon Organising Committee which has the District Collector, Mr. P.B. Salim as its Chairman had its first meeting on 18th January. It opened with an address by Dr. Debashis Chatterjee, Director of IIMK, on the focus given to developing social sensitivity amongst future managers at IIMK. He explained how the Social Service Group (SSG) was a critical student body at IIMK which through its endeavours like the Calicut Marathon was largely instrumental in developing an ethos of social commitment in the institute. He appreciated the theme of the marathon - ‘Transforming Lives’ - and talked about the need for awareness on such issues that was being filled by an event like the Calicut Marathon which was wholly a brainchild of the IIMK students. The President of the District Sports Council, Mr. K.J. Mathai, then spoke about how DSC would always support activities like the Calicut Marathon and aim to bring them at par with marathons being conducted in other metros like Mumbai and Delhi. Mr. C.P. Mohandas, the Deputy General Manager of Federal Bank who are the title sponsors of the event assured the organisers of their unflinching support not just for the Calicut Marathon but for other future events linked to social causes that would be organised by SSG.
The event along with its website, logo and official video were launched by the different dignitaries, in the presence of the press. The event was launched by Dr. Debashis Chatterjee following which the DGM of Federal Bank launched the official Calicut Marathon website, the President of the District Sports Council launched the Marathon logo and the President of the Calicut Press Club, Mr. R. Madhusakar, launched the official Marathon video.
Since now that the Calicut mini-marathon event has been launched, the city is brimming with excitement eagerly waiting for the D-day to arrive.
