IIM Kozhikode annual fest to focus on ‘People Planet Profit'

The Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIMK) will hold its annual management festival, Backwaters – 2011, from November 18-20.

The annual festival features the flagship event of business plan and new venture contest, namely, ‘White Knight', and this year the focus will be on ‘People Planet Profit', the triple bottom line for business. The significance of the triple bottom line will be brought to the forefront through its application in all flagship as well as domain events carried out across the finance, marketing, operations, strategy, systems and HR verticals, according to the media cell of IIMK.

Besides, monitoring and controlling the carbon footprint will be another dominant theme and the festival will have a series of activities to highlight the ways to reduce the damage caused by the phenomenon to the environment.

Another major attraction is the annual leadership and speaker conclave, styled ‘Horizon', and this year's event will bring together leaders from various walks of life with the spotlight on prominent personalities who incorporated the triple bottom line in their paths towards success. Social entrepreneurs, mass movement proponents, energy activists, policy makers and industry bigwigs will share their success stories, while also reminding the next generation managers to balance the growth strategies by factoring in concerns about the sustainability of business practices.

The festival will also witness the first-of-its kind ‘Corporate Dinner', which will provide an opportunity for business personalities in the region to interact and network with the IIMK community. The other attraction of the event is ‘Shiksha', an interface programme for management schools and under-graduate institutes in the region.

Last year's festival saw participation from all premier B-schools in the country with a prize money of more than Rs10 lakh. The website, too, had a record number of hits. With the new events planned and a bigger prize money pool, the institute is expecting a larger participation in this year's event.
