Sectorama, India's Biggest Sector Analysis Competition, commences at IIMA

IIMA, January 27, 2014: The first round of Sectorama 2014, India's biggest sector-based case study competition, saw participation from over 800 students from India's premier B-schools including the Indian Institutes of Management at Bangalore, Calcutta and Lucknow, FMS, XLRI and the Indian School of Business (ISB). Sectorama is the flagship event of IIM Ahmedabad's Consult Club, a student-run body. The competition aims to identify some critical issues in eight key sectors of the Indian economy and propose solutions for them. The key sectors in focus this year are: Technology, Financial Services, Aviation, Fast-moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Media and Communication, Energy, Auto and Telecom.

Sectorama 2014, which has prize money worth Rs. 1.5 lakhs, was launched by the Consult Club of IIMA in strategic partnership with Global Consulting Firm, Breakthrough Management Group International (BMGI) in India. BMGI India specializes in providing management consulting in strategy, innovation, problem solving and business transformation across all industries and is recognised as a world leader in Performance Excellence. It boasts of a clientele comprising Asian Paints, Daimler Benz, Volkswagen, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, ITC, HUL, Marico, Oracle, Reliance Industries, Vodafone and SKF, among others. BMGI India's CEO, Mr Naresh Raisinghani, will head the panel of judges that decides the winners of Sectorama 2014. After an online quiz in Round 1, a total of 32 teams - 4 from each sector - have been shortlisted for the second round of the competition. The third and final round, scheduled for the second week of February, will decide the winners of the case-study competition.

Another recent initiative by IIM Ahmedabad's Consult Club was the launch of the first edition of its annual magazine, Tattva. According to the Tattva team, the objective of launching the magazine is to make students more aware of the latest thoughts and developments in the field of consulting and to promote better interaction between the club and the industry. The magazine focuses on four elements of consulting: the Client, the Consultant, the Firm and the Industry, and has articles from IIMA faculty, senior management from the industry, alumni and students. Firms contributing to Tattva included Accenture, AT Kearney, Booz & Co., the Boston Consulting Group, BMGI, Deutsche Bank, ICRA Management Consulting, ITC, McKinsey & Company and Nexus Venture Partners.
