IIHMR University Organises Blood Donation Drive 2015
110 units of blood donated
Jaipur, 17th Sepetember 2015 : On the 33rd death anniversary of respected and beloved, Late Shri P.D. Agarwal, Indian Institute of Health Management and Research (IIHMR) organised a blood donation camp in IIHMR University campus. Jaipur based Santokaba Durlabhji Memorial Hospital (SDMH) also supported to this social cause.
One of the key objectives of 'Late Shri P.D. Agarwal Blood Drive' is to eliminate blood shortage. The increase in number of fatal or severe injuries is on the rise due to road traffic and industrial accidents. Disease like dengue has also increased the demand for blood. Every year IIHMR organises the blood donation camp with the support of Bhoruka Blood Bank, A unit of Bhoruka Public Welfare Trust.
Dr. Ashok kaushik (Dean Academic and student affair) IIHMR, said, "Since past 7 years blood donation drives are being organised in memory of Late Shri P.D.Agarwal in the IIHMR campus. So far over 1000 units of blood have been donated and the cause has saved many lives by providing blood on health emergencies. The vision of this camp is to completely eradicate the blood shortage in india.".
Late Shri P.D.Agarwal was the founder of various organizations like as TCI, ABC India, Bhoruka Charitable Trust, and GATI. The same initiative is being driven at all these organisation across India with the support of Bhoruka Blood Bank.
Brief note about Late Shri P.D. Agarwal
We would like to inform you that our founder, Late Shri P.D. Agarwal, is not only the founder of several eminent groups like TCI, ABC India, GATI and Bhoruka; but also catalyzed changes in various sectors that even today have a positive impact on the country and our society. He is considered the founder of the Indian transport industry. His contribution to our society extends beyond transport to spheres, such as education, health care and women empowerment. His initiative to eradicate blood shortage in early eighties is one such example.
In 1982, he founded the first non-governmental blood bank (Bhoruka Blood Bank) in Kolkata to ensure round the clock availability of blood for anyone in need. Today Bhoruka Blood Bank is a benchmark in the field of voluntary blood donation nationally and also a pioneer in the formation and training of groups that use Bhoruka's self-sustaining models of treatment of hematological disorders.
