But the thing is there are still lots of possible ways on how to fill in that “work experience” section and get noticed even if you do not have anything to write in there. Consider some of these areas that are essential in which you have to give focus in your resume.
Capabilities and potentials
Announce to the world what you can do. Your potential, abilities and capabilities are very essential. You have to consider that employers do not only look after to the things that you have already done but also on what you can do to the company and how can you be of help. So it all depends on you on how you would convince them. The best thing to do is list down all the possible and significant experiences you have when you did something during your schooldays that you think are in relation to the job that you are applying.
For instance, you are a graduate of Tourism. Well, you can include your experiences about your travels, how you cope with the things around you, your involvements in any activities, the way you deal with different kinds of people and overcoming the hardships along the way. Stating all of these shows all your capabilities, potentials and the possibilities that you have done.
Skills and expertise
Yes, skills and expertise do counts. Just make your skills and expertise sensible. Do not state the things that you think are impossible for you to do. Chances are, you will be put unguarded if the employers will ask you to do such thing. Just be honest. Employers are considerate of the things that you can only do. They do not expect you to have an expertise and skillful just like any other veteran.
Your top 5 skills and expertise can be enough. Do you have any experience wherein you showed that skill or expertise? Let’s say you have that organizing skills, you may share and talk about how you did well in organizing such big event in your school. Or are you skillful in writing, then you may include your works probably as a member of a school paper. Then, you can apply it to the job that you are applying.
Work experiences and extra-curricular activities
This does not necessarily mean paid work experiences. This mainly includes the activities you’ve been involved in any organizations such as; internships, volunteering jobs, taking some courses in school or online, learning basics of foreign language, or trying to become a member of a professional organization.
Indeed, internship goes in every course in school and this helps a lot in your resume. Indicate the name of the company where you did it as well as the number of hours that you have completed. You may ask for character references from the people in that certain company. This will certainly help you in your job.
The same thing also when you have volunteering activities such as involving in packing of relief goods for the typhoon victims of Philippines, you may ask certificate of being a volunteer there. Another thing is by taking short courses in school such as journalism, creative writing and computer programming, or taking courses online and learning basics of foreign language as well. There are lots of schools offering these kinds of courses and trainings. Becoming a member of a professional organization such as those involving the youth, environment, human rights and education to name a few, will give you additional credit to your resume.
Trainings, seminars and workshops
Your school may have invited you to represent your school or organization to seminars, trainings and workshops. These activities will surely be of big help in your job. You just don’t know that one of your trainings is essential and relevant to the job description that you are applying for. Just provide certificates in order to have proof that you have really undergone such trainings and workshops and present there during the seminar.
With all of these tips, job hunting is not that hard after all. All you need to do is just be honest and believe in yourself. Surely, you have a lot of things to write now in your resume even though you don’t have work experience yet. Don’t take it as a hindrance in applying for a good job.
