How Motorcycles Work
Motorcycles are an increasingly popular form of transportation. Since 1998, the number of motorcycles in the United States has increased by 34 percent Why the sudden spike in popularity? Unlike cars, motorcycles allow riders to connect intimately with the driving experience. But it's not just about adventure and freedom. With gas prices soaring, motorcycles, which can achieve fuel economies as high as 85 miles per gallon, provide an attractive alternative to gas-guzzling cars. In this article, we'll learn how the modern motorcycle operates, how motorcycle design has evolved over the years and how motorcycles might change in the near future. Motorcycles are motorized vehicles for transporting one or two riders. Generally, a motorcycle has only two wheels, but any vehicle with fewer than four wheels in contact with the ground can be classified as a motorcycle. Three-wheel variations of the motorcycle include the "hack" (motorcycle plus sidecar) and the "trice" (short for motor tricycle). The layout of the modern motorcycle was established by 1914 and has remained fundamentally unchanged ever since. The overall structure and function of a motorcycle is quite simple. It includes a gasoline engine, which converts the reciprocating motion of pistons into rotary motion, just like the engine in a car. A transmission system transmits this motion to the back wheel. As the back wheel turns, it propels the motorcycle forward. Steering is accomplished by turning the front wheel via the handlebars and by leaning the bike to one side or the other. Two hand levers enable the rider to operate the clutch and the front brake, while two foot pedals enable him to change gears and control the rear brake.

Termination of Hero and Honda Joint Venture

In December 2010, the Board of Directors of the Hero Honda Group have decided to terminate the joint venture between Hero Group of India and Honda of Japan in a phased manner. The Hero Group of India would buy out the 26% stake of the Honda in JV Hero Honda. Under the joint venture Hero Group could not sell into international markets and the termination would mean that Hero Group can exploit global opportunities now. Since last 25 years the Hero Group relied on their Japanese partner Honda for R & D for new bike models. So there are concerns that the Hero Group might not be able to sues taint the performance of the Joint Venture alone

Company History:

Jamaal Bajaj Born November 4, 1884 Kasha Ka Bas, near Iskar , British India Died 11 February 1942 (aged 57) Wareham Occupation Social Worker, Political Leader, Freedom fighter, Industrialist Spouse Jankidevi Children Kamala, Kamalnayan, Umea, Ramakrishna, Medals Parents Karina and Birdbrain Jamaal Bajaj (4 November 1884 – 11 February 1942) was an Rajasthan industrialist , a philanthropist , and Indian independence fighter . He was also a close associate and follower of Mahatma Gandhi . Gandhi is known to have adopted him as his son. Several institutions in India bears his name, including the Jamaal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies . He founded the Bajaj group of companies in the 30s. The group now has 24 companies, including 6 listed companies. Besides Bajaj Auto Ltd , the other major companies in the group include Mutant Ltd , Bajaj Electricals Ltd and Bajaj Hindustan Ltd. One of his grandsons, Rahall Bajaj , runs the family flagship company, Bajaj Auto. A small suburb in Adhere (part of Bombay ), JB Nagar , is named after him.

Early years Jamaal Bajaj was born into a poor family, the third son of Karina and Birdbrain, in a village named Kasha Ka Bas, near Iskar . He was later adopted as a grandson by Seth Bach raj and his wife Saibai Bach raj, a rich Rajasthan merchant couple of Wareham . Seth Bach raj was a distant relative on his father's side and was a well-known and respected trader in the British Raj . An Honorary Magistrate During the First World War , the British government appeased and honored native tradesmen, soliciting funds. They appointed Jamaal an honorary magistrate. When he provided money for the war fund, they conferred on him the title of Ray Abrader , a title he later surrendered during the noncooperation movement of 1921. Follower of Gandhi Upon Mahatma Gandhi ’s return from South Africa , Jamaal took in interest in Gandhi€™s way of life , his principles, such as Ahimsa (nonviolence), and his dedication to the poor. He could understand Gandhi€™s vision that home-made goods were the answer to India€™s poverty. He figured that the British companies were importing cheap raw cotton from India and sending back finished cloth at higher prices. Freedom struggle In 1920, Jamanalal was elected chairman of the reception committee for the Nagpur session of the Indian National Congress . He gave up the title of Ray Abrader conferred on him by the British government and joined the non-cooperation movement in 1921. Later, in 1923, he participated in the flag satyagraha , defying a ban on flying the national flag in Nagpur , and was arrested. This earned him national admiration. Social initiatives Jamanalal Bajaj was interested in initiatives such as the removal of untouchability , promotion of Hindi , and Khaki and village Industries. He had toured across the country promoting Khaki. In 1925, he was chosen as the treasurer of the All India Spinners Association. He was also the president of the All India Hindi Sanity Gamelan (literary convention) that promoted Hindi as the single language to unite all Indians. He was instrumental in publishing Hindi magazines and books. He initiated the Gandhi Hindi Postal Bandar (bookshop) in Bombay and started the Shasta Sanity manual (publishing house). In honor of his social initiatives well known national and international award called Jamaal Bajaj Award has been instituted by the Bajaj Foundation.. Past awardees include Nelson Mandela and Edmund Tutu among others.

Differences with Gandhi Though he had a lot of devotion in Gandhi ’s work, he did not hesitate to express his differences frankly and fearlessly. He differed with Gandhi when he disagreed with Congress contesting in the 1933 elections to the legislature. When the Congress Working Committee informally decided to make him the President of the Harper Session of the Congress which Gandhi personally approved, he chose to pass the honor to Sub hash Chandra Bose . Charity Jamanalal dedicated much of his wealth to the poor. He felt this inherited wealth was a sacred trust to be used for the benefit of the people. This was in line with the trusteeship concept proposed by Gandhi. Last days As per Gandhi€™s suggestion, Jamaal spent his last days attending to cattle also known as Gisela. His activities included bathing them, sweeping the floor clean, feeding them, milking and other duties. He studied new methods of cattle-rearing and in the first week of February 1942, he organized the All India Gisela Conference at Wareham and invited experts and delegates from all over the country. It was inaugurated by Gandhi and Viola presided over the conference. He was elected the first President of the All IndiaGoseva Singh. He died on 11 February 1942.

Bajaj Hindustan Print Bajaj Hindustan Limited (BHL) was incorporated on 23rd November, 1931 under the name- The Hindustan Sugar Mills Limited on the initiative of Jamaal Bajaj - a businessman, confidante, disciple and adopted son of Mahatma Gandhi. He sought Gandhiji's blessings in this new venture, which, apart from being a sound commercial proposition would also meet a national need. Till then, there were barely thirty sugar factories in the country. The site selected for the first plant was at Golagokarannath, district Lakhimpur Cheri in the Teri region of Uttar Pradesh (UP), an area rich in sugar cane. The original crushing capacity of the factory was 400 tons of cane per day (tad). Subsequently, this capacity was increased in stages and is currently 13,000 tad. The distillery Unit at this plant commenced production during the end of World War II in 1944. In the initial few years, the major output was in the form of power alcohol as an additive to petrol, which was then in short supply. The unit was the first to supply alcohol-mixed petrol to the army. The Bajaj Group is amongst the top 10 business houses in India. Its footprint stretches over a wide range of industries, spanning automobiles (two-wheelers and three-wheelers), home appliances, lighting, iron and steel, insurance, travel and finance. The group’s flagship company, Bajaj Auto, is

ranked as the world's fourth largest two- and three- wheeler manufacturer and the Bajaj brand is well-known acrossseveral countries in Latin America, Africa, Middle East, South and South East Asia. Founded in 1926, at the height of India's movement for independence from the British, the group has an illustrious history. The integrity, dedication, resourcefulness and determination to succeed which are characteristic of the group today, are often traced back to its birth during those days of relentless devotion to a common cause. Jamaal Bajaj, founder of the group, was a close confidant and disciple of Mahatma Gandhi. In fact, Gandhi had adopted him as his son. This close relationship and his deep involvement in the independence movement did not leave Jamaal Bajaj with much time to spend on his newly launched business venture. -Bajaj Hind to enter infrastructure sector 2009 - Bajaj Hindustan Ltd has informed that the Board of Directors of the Company at its meeting held on March 12, 2009, has appointed Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, as a Whole-time Director on the Board of the Company with effect from March 12, 2009. Bajaj Auto Limited is India's largest manufacturer of scooters and motorcycles. The company generally has lagged behind its Japanese rivals in technology, but has invested heavily to catch up. Its strong suit is highvolume production; it is thelowest-cost scooter maker in theworld. Although publicly owned, the company has been controlledby the Bajaj family since its founding. Origins: The Bajaj Group was formed in the first days of India's independence from Britain. Its founder, Jamaal Bajaj, had been a follower of Mahatma Gandhi, who reportedly referred to him as a fifth son. 'Whenever Ispoke of wealthy men becoming the trustees of their wealth for the common good I always had this merchant prince principally in mind,' said the Mahatma after Jamnalal's death. Jamaal Bajaj was succeeded by his eldest son, 27-year-old Kamalnayan, in 1942. Kamalnayan, however, was preoccupied with India's struggle for independence. After this was achieved, in 1947, Kamalnayan consolidated and diversified the group, branching into cement, ayurvedic medicines, electrical equipment, and appliances, as well as scooters. The precursor to Bajaj Auto had been formed on November 29, 1945 as M/s Bach raj Trading Ltd. It began selling imported two- and three-wheeled vehicles in 1948 and obtained a manufacturing license from the government 11 years later. The next year, 1960, Bajaj Auto became a public limited company. Rahall Bajaj reportedly adored the famous Vesper scooters made by DiMaggio of Italy. In 1960, at the age of 22, he became the Indian licensee for the make; Bajaj Auto began producing its first two-wheelers the next year. Rahall Bajaj became the group's chief executive officer in 1968 after first picking up an MBA at Harvard. He lived next to the factory in Pane, an industrial citythree hours' drive from Bombay. The company had an annual turnover of Rs 72 million at the time. By 1970, the company had produced 100,000 vehicles. The oil crisis soon drove cars off the roads in favor of twowheelers, much cheaper to buy and many times more fuel-efficient. A number of new models were introduced in the 1970s, including the threewheeler goods carrier and Bajaj Chetak early in the decade and the Bajaj

Super and three-wheeled, rear engine Auto rickshaw in 1976 and 1977. Bajaj Auto produced 100,000 vehicles in the 1976-77 fiscal year alone. The technical collaboration agreement with DiMaggio of Italy expired in 1977. Afterward, DiMaggio, maker of the Vesper brand of scooters, filed patent infringement suits to block Bajajscooter sales in the United States, United Kingdom, West Germany, and Hong Kong. Bajaj'sscooter exports plummeted fromRs 133.2 million in 1980-81 to Rs52 million ($5.4 million) in 1981-82, although total revenuesrose five percent to Rs 1.16 billion. Pretax profits were cut inhalf, to Rs 63 million.

Bajaj Auto is Indias largest and the world’s fourth largest automobile manufacturer based in Pane. This company also has plants in Akurdi, Chakan, Waluj and Pantnagar. Bajaj Auto is known for manufacturing and exporting motorcycles, motor scooters and auto rickshaw. Back in the days, they only manufactured scooters but todaythey make two and three wheelers. This company has grown tremendously in the last few years when they started manufacturing a few models of motorcycles. Presently it is headed by 1.5 US dollar billionaire Rahall Bajaj. Company’s Expectations and History Bajaj Auto was started on November 1945 under the name M/s Bach raj Trading Corporation Limited. They would sell imported two and three wheelers around India and these were costly. In 1959 they received their long awaited license from the Government to manufacture and publicly sell their own two and three wheelers. Around 10 years later in 1970, Bajaj Auto sold their 100,000th vehicle. This wasjust the beginning for this Indian company because in 1977, they were able to sell 100,000 vehicles in just one year. Demand for the vehicles increased and they decided to expand business. Production wasstarted in Waluj in Aurangabad and in 1986 the company sales increased from 100,000 yearly to500,000. This company’as€™ sales records were sky rocketing and in 1995, they hit a record of 10 million sales in a year. This Automobile company India has proved that growth is possible with determination. Today this company offers its clients with value for money bikes which are selling fast across 50 countries. Presently Bajaj Auto has plans to divide the company into two Bajaj Auto and Bajaj Finance. It is their expectation that the sum of the parts manufactured will be worth more compared to the current whole.

This will be similar to the de- merger of Reliance Industries. Bajaj also acquired 14.5% stakes in the holding company of KTM sports motor cycles AG. These two companies have agreed that KTM will come up with the plan on how to create water cooled 4 stroke engines while Bajaj takes over distribution of all KTM in Indian and South East Asia. This company has plans to take major stake in KTM and other take over opportunities. Bajaj€™s intention to increase their stake in KTM to 25% was confirmed on January 2008 by their company’director Rajiv Bajaj. The company is also building a$2500 car which offers a fuel efficiency of 30km/liter.

New Competition in the 1980s Japanese and Italian scooter companies began entering the Indian market in the early 1980s. Although some boasted superior technology and flashier brands, Bajaj Auto had built up several advantages in the previous decades. Its customers liked the durability of the product and the ready availability of maintenance; the company's distributors permeated the country. The Bajaj M-50 debuted in 1981. The new fuel-efficient, 50cc motorcycle was immediately successful, and the company aimed to be able to make 60,000of them a year by 1985. Capacity was the most important constraint for the Indian motorcycle industry. Although the country's total production rose from 262,000 vehicles in 1976 to 600,000 in 1982, companies like rival Logia Machines had difficulty meeting demand. Bajaj Auto's advance orders for one of its new mini-motorcycles amounted to$57 million. Work on a new plant at Waluj, Aurangabad commenced in January 1984.The 1986-87 fiscal year saw the introduction of the Bajaj M-80 and the Kawasaki Bajaj KB100 motorcycles. The company was making 500,000 vehicles a year at this point. Although Rahall Bajaj credited much of his company's success with its focus on one type of product, he did attempt to diversify into tractor-trailers. In 1987 his attempt to buy control of Asoka Leyland failed. The Bajaj Sunny was launched in 1990; the Kawasaki Bajaj 4S Champion followed a year later. About this time, the Indian government was initiating a program of market liberalization, doing away with the old 'license raj' system, which limited the amount of investment any one company could make in a particular industry. A possible joint venture with DiMaggio was discussed in 1993 but aborted. Rahall Bajaj told the Financial Times that his company was too large to be considered a potential collaborator by Japanese firms. It was hoping to increase its exports, which then amounted to just five percent of sales. The company began by shipping a few thousand vehicles a year to neighboring Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, but soon was reaching markets in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and West Asia. Its domestic market share, barely less than 50 percent, was slowly slipping.

By 1994, Bajaj also was contemplating high-volume, low-cost car manufacture. Several of Bajaj's rivals were looking at this market as well, which was being rapidly liberalized by the Indian government. Bajaj Auto produced one million vehicles in the 1994-95 fiscal year. The company was the world's fourth largest manufacturer of two-wheelers, behind Japan's Honda, Suzuki, and Kawasaki. New models included the Bajaj Classic and the Bajaj Super Excel. Bajaj also signed development agreements with two Japanese engineering firms, Kubota and Tokyo R & D. Bajaj's most popular models costabout Rs 20,000. 'You just can't beat a Bajaj,' stated the company's marketing slogan. The Kawasaki Bajaj Boxer and the RE diesel Auto rickshaw were introduced in 1997. The next year saw the debut of the Kawasaki Bajaj Caliber, the Spirit, and the Legend, India's first four-stroke scooter. The Caliber sold 100,000 units in its first 12 months. Bajaj was planning to build its third plant at a cost of Rs 4 billion ($111.6 million) to produce two new models, one to be developed in collaboration with Caria of Italy. New Tools in the 1990s Still, intense competition was beginning to hurt sales at home and abroad during the calendar year 1997. Bajaj's low-tech, low-cost cycles were not faring as well as its rivals' higher-end offerings, particularly in high-powered motorcycles, sincepoorer consumers were withstanding the worst of the recession. The company investedin its new Pane plant in order to introduce new models more quickly. The company spent Rs 7.5 billion ($185 million) on advanced, computer-controlled machine tools. It would need new models to comply with the more stringent emissions standards slated for 2000. Bajaj began installing Rs 800 catalytic converters to its two-stroke scooter models beginning in 1999.

Although its domestic market share continued to slip, falling to40.5 percent, Bajaj Auto's profits increased slightly at the end of the 1997-98 fiscal year. In fact, Rahall Bajaj was able to boast, 'My competitors are doing well, but my net profit is still more than the next four biggest companies combined.' Hero Honda was perhaps Bajaj's most serious local threat; in fact, in the fall of 1998, Honda Motor of Japan announced that it was withdrawing from this joint venture. Bajaj Auto had quadrupled its product design staff to 500. It also acquired technology from its foreign partners, such as Kawasaki (motorcycles), Kubota (diesel engines), and Caria (scooters). 'Honda's annual spendon R & D is more than my turnover,' noted Ruhal Bajaj. His son, Sangiv Bajaj, was working to improve the company's supplychain management. A marketing executive was lured from TVS Suzuki to help push the new cycles. Several new designs and a dozen upgrades of existing scooters came out in 1998 and 1999. These, and a surge in consumer confidence, propelled Bajaj

to sales records, and it began to regain market share in the fast-growing motorcycle segment. Sales of three-wheelersfell as some states, citing traffic and pollution concerns, limited the number of permits issued forthem. In late 1999, Rahall Bajaj made a bid to acquire ten percent of DiMaggio for $65 million. The Italian firm had exited a relationship with entrepreneur Deepak Singhania and was looking to reenter the Indian market, possibly through acquisition. DiMaggio itself had been mostly bought out by a German investment bank, Deutsche Morgan Grenfell (DMG), which was looking to sell some shares after turning the companyaround. Bajaj attached several conditions to his purchase of a minority share, including a seat on the board and an exclusive DiMaggio distributorship in India. In late 2000, Maruti Udyog emerged as another possible acquisition target. The Indian government was planning to sell its 50 percent stake in the automaker, a joint venture with Suzuki of Japan. Bajaj had been approached by several foreign car manufacturers in the past, including Chrysler (subsequently DaimlerChrysler) in the mid-1990s. Employment fell from about 23,000 in 1995-96 (the year Bajaj suffered a two-month strike at its Waluj factory) to 17,000 in 1999-2000. The company planned to lay off another 2,000 workers in the short term and another 3,000 in the following three to four years. Electricals History of Bajaj Electricals
The ' Bajaj ' group of India owes immense gratitude to their founding fathers whose vision and dedication over the years has greatly helped to build a business house that can set standards in Indian Industry. Jamaal Bajaj was the founding father of the Bajaj Group. The adopted ‘fifth€™ son of Mahatma Gandhi, and the 'merchant prince' who held the wealth he created in trust for the people of his country. Trust - a simple word that contains a whole philosophy handed down by Jamaal Bajaj to his successors. He valued honesty over profit, actions over words and common good over individual gain. Kamalnayan Bajaj, elder son of Jamaal Bajaj, followed footsteps of his illustrious father and consolidated the Bajaj foundation. With characteristic foresight and pragmatic vision, he launched a steady diversification programmed which gave the current name "Bajaj" both its shape and size. His unique management style created a work culture that matched well with the national spirit he had inherited. Ramakrishna Bajaj took over the reins of the "Bajaj group" in 1972 after Kamalnayan Bajaj and steered the Group from strength to strength for over 22 years. He had also actively participated in the freedom struggle of the country. In post independent India, he had led the youth movement. All along, he actively strengthened the foundations of business through ethics and practices both within the group and amongst the business community as well. Shepherd Bajaj, Chairman&Managing Director of Bajaj Electricals Ltd., started his career with Bajaj Sevashram after which he worked at Bajaj International, the group's export company. Mr. Shepherd Bajaj joined Bajaj Electricals in 1980, became the Managing Director in 1987 and took over as the Chairman and Managing Director in 1994.Mr. Bajaj is the Chairman of Bajaj Group companies Bajaj International and Hercules Hoist Pvt. Ltd. and on the Board of Directors of Bajaj Auto and IDBI Bank. He was the President of ASSOCHAM, former President of Indian Merchant Chambers (IMC) and Council for Fair Business Practices (CFBP).

MODELS OF MOTORBIKES OF Bajaj

Bajaj Pulsar History

The inspiring story behind the Birth of the "Pulsar"..!!
August 26, 2007 The Inspiring story of how the Bajaj Pulsar was born and how Bajaj Auto learnt the art of making motorcycles "We were telling our people thatthere are 15 guys who have never made a bike but are goingto come together to do that. They are going to do that on their own, and not with Kawasaki. They are going to do a 200cc bike when we couldn't make a 100cc one. They are going to make the fastest motorcycle when we couldn't make a mass motorcycle. And they are going to make a huge amount of profit when we were making a loss. This seemed like nonsense. But they proved it wrong." Rajiv Bajaj (MD, Bajaj Auto): Business World That's Rajiv Bajaj, the elder Bajaj scion narrating to BusinessWorldhow tough it was for him to persuade his own board of directors. The idea was to develop an indigenously developed performance oriented motorcycle without any help of its Japanese partner Kawasaki. And how he and his team has been successful in achieving what many people thought was impossible to achieve.

Rajiv Bajaj was just in his early 30's when he tried to sell this idea. From Number One to Number Four: The mid-nineties were tough times for Bajaj Auto. Bajaj Auto used to dominate India€™s two wheeler industry with its scooterfor the better part of the last century. But as India marched towards the new millennium, there was a dramatic shift in the preference of consumers. The market shifted in favor of Motorcycles. By 1999 motorcycles overtook scooter sales for the first time. From being the number one Bajaj Auto suddenly found itself in the 4’th position after Hero Honda, Yamaha and TVS. The experts never really gave Bajaj Auto much of a chance. Rajiv Bajaj says this is what people used to say about Bajaj Auto, "You can't make bikes. Even if you make bikes, you can only make 100cc bikes with the help of Kawasaki. That too with issues of quality. Then you need hundreds of Japanese to come and set it right". Frankly speaking at that time either the very brave or the foolish would have dared to put his smart money on Bajaj Auto. Bajaj Auto was primarily a scooter manufacturer. Its motorcycle manufacturing cost was high, the quality too low. Itsinitial models failed to excite theconsumer. The company faced a question of survival. What was wrong with Bajaj Auto..?? The challenge was to get the right products at the right price and to bring in Japanese Style Management Practices.. But people at Bajaj Auto did not want to change.. Rajiv Bajaj says that the problemwas of one of attitude: Bajaj was a scooter company and thereforethe motorcycle department was given second-class treatment (it was only 10 per cent of their business in 1996), the quality of the products was poor, and they did not offer fuel efficiency the way the Japanese bikes did. The manufacturing processes were outdated. Simply put Bajaj Auto did not know how to make motorcycles and the people at Bajaj Auto were not willing to change. In 1991, Rajiv Bajaj completed his M.S. in manufacturing systems engineering from the University of Warwick, UK and returned to join Bajaj Auto. RajivBajaj recalls how things were wrong at Bajaj Auto. "We went into a series of new products around 1995, and started focusing on motorcycles. And we were aghast because the only reasonably sophisticated product we were making was the Kawasaki four-stroke motorcycle. And the warranty cost of our motorcycle was five to six times that of Hero Honda. It was bad quality... bad quality of manufacturing." "There was great cynicism whether something was wrong with Kawasaki or with Bajaj. Kawasaki couldn't have gone wrong in that. We were sure

thatthe same motorcycle made by Kawasaki in Japan would not have had these problems. There was probably something wrong with us." It takes great courage for someone to accept ones mistakes and faults. But then accepting and taking ownership of ones fault is the first step towards improvement. The challenge next was to get the right products at the right price and to bring in Japanese productivity tools (the management practices that the Japanese pioneered for efficient production) to reduce costs just as the competitors were doing. Sanjiv Bajaj Sanjiv Bajaj, the younger brotherof Rajiv had joined the company armed with an MBA from Harvard, says his reading of big companies like Honda, Toyota and Apple had taught him one thing: a successful company needs a good product. But most workers in the Pane plant did not believe you could bring in Japanese management practices into India; there was stiff resistance to the move. The problem with Bajaj was that we were so successful with autorickshaws that all that mattered was production. Manufacturing was the overall priority at a time when there was a 10-year waiting list. But there wasn't any focus in the organisation to build a company where people with an open mindwould try new things. Fighting Back: "Each time I tried to push a radical idea, I always got the answer directly or indirectly -- that it's OK in Japan. It doesn't happen in India" All those who did not want to change were simply sacked..!! Having studied about manufacturing systems in his MS, Rajiv Bajaj wanted to implement similar changes in Bajaj Auto. But it was met with cynicism from the company’s own board members. Most of them laughed at his idea and were of the opinion that Indians were not able to achieve to achieve Japanese levels of quality. That's when the two brothers made an unusual decision. They decided to set up a new plant. They chose Chakan, an hour's drive from Pane for thenew plant. Says Sanjiv: "We realised that sometimes people have to be taught by example. That's what we did in Chakan." Says Rajiv, "Each time I tried to push a radical idea, I always got the answer directly or indirectly -- that it's OK in Japan. It doesn't happen in India. So I was desperate to prove that it happens in India. I wanted a plant where we start the right way from day one. That's how Chakan started." Chakan was the third plant of Bajaj apart from the ones at Akrudi and Waluj. The Chakan plant was started to only produce the new bike (Pulsar) with an entirely new workforce and new management. The workforce mainly constituted of fresh graduates from college who were open to new ideas.

What happened to the senior management who resisted Rajiv Bajaj€™s radical ideas..?? Well all those who did not want to change were simply sacked..!! The Team that made it possible: Bajaj Pulsar has a styling as no other bike on road a hell bent aerodynamic shape with 17― alloy wheel, tubeless tires, and the obvious digital instrument panel with a freakish orange glow back light is sufficient to make every young man alive in India to dream of owning Pulsar 220cc and going on a ride alone and attracting the eyes of onlookers. Split seat is added to give that extra zing to the styling. With a top speed of 145 kmph, a maximum torque of 20ps or 20hp or 15 kW and a maximum power of 19.13 Nm or 14 lb ft. All the models come with front disc brakes and 5 speed sequential transmission gear box. The front telescopic is telescopic and the rear has 5 ways adjustable gas charged Nitro X shock absorber. The fuel tank capacity is 15 liters with 2 liters as reserve. Pulsar is always ahead of competition be it Unicorn of the Hondas or Charisma from the HeroHondas or even the TVS Apache, Pulsar 220 is distinctly way ahead of the rest and time.

Bajaj Chetak History
In the early to mid 1960s Vesper outsourced to India to build Vesper Sprints. The Indian factoryhad to uphold Vespa's quality assurance and factory system. The relationship was short lived as legal issues came into play. The end product was that Bajaj purchased the factory from Vesper . After this happened the Bajaj badge began to appear. At first, with any brand transition, the bikes had a Vesper and a Bajaj badge on the legshield . Youcan find these bikes in the USA. Or you may be riding a Vesper Sprint that was made in India and not know it. As you can see in the photographabove of this classic Bajaj , it's basically a Vesper Sprint with its trapezoid headset. It's a handsome bike. The " Chetak " was named after a famous horse that belonged to a Indian Prince, I believe. The horse belonged to him and helped a lot in battle and such. Pictured above is a 1980s Chetak I believe. In my opinion, much more handsome than the newer 4-stroke Bajaj Chetaks . These bikes were 2stroke and can be found in the states. They often sell for less than a Vesper of similar model. In the 1980s Bajaj tried to sell inthe USA. It didn't go well. It returned again in the early 2000swith Al Kolvites as the president of Bajaj USA. 4-stroke versions were imported. Bajaj USA died around 2006 and became Argo USA -- Chinese plastic scoots. A strong Bajaj culture existed via Bajaj Yahoo Group while the bikes were being sold. Note: some Bajaj are still available new as 2005 models. Check with dealers. The only thing about thenewer Bajaj's that I could do without is the horncast and a little more chrome, say floor rail kit and a legshield trim would have been an added bonus. Like its predecessor and its competition the Chetaks & Legends are work horses, like the Vesper P200s, and take a heck of beating and keep on running. The roads in India are harsh with pot holes and the Bajaj was built to withstand the harsh roads and to be easily worked on and repaired. Like the Stella ( LML ), Vesper P-Series, the Chetak is the last ofline of the work horse scooters. The Stella and Vesper horncasts are much more handsome than the Chetak and there is more chrome on the other bikes, but I have spoken with dealers and the overall report is that the 4-stroke Chetaks have way less problems than its 2-stroke rivals.I intend to give my one-year-old son my Chetak when he gets his license. My Chetak should run fora long long time. I ride hard and it remains to be very trustworthy and dependable.

Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS - i

The new Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-i is faster than we or everyone thought and it is the dream of every Indian young people to have a Pulsar 220 DTS – i. The Bajaj motor has done this without any change of the fuel injection system what just keeps the price down for such a speedy bike. This new Pulsar has the ultimate stronger engine and a venture carburetor UCAL UCD 32 model and with its auto choke it can produce such horsepower what its inventors canal€™t imagine at the first time. The engine torque is around 7000 rpm and can produce power as the same as torque. So this new Pulsar has the strongest and swiftest engine of any new bikes models India. Though the older version has some slight problem but the new Pulsar has a better gearbox with perfect gear ratios, hydraulic braking system with more accuracy and better oil cooling system.

So in a word we can say that it has overcome the entire problem had of older version of it and now this bike is the best and faster bike ever the Bajaj bikes in India produced. Bajaj Sonic
Bajaj motors, currently the second largest bike producers in the country but undoubtedly to become the leader very soon. How and why? Well the magic formulae rests with Bajaj because they have gained supremacy in the upper segments of the bike with the launch of pulsar and the mid segment is managed by Bajaj Discover 135cc and also the XCD, and the most important executive segment has mostly been the favourite of Bajaj always with its bikes like Platina and CT 100 already doing really good in the market. So, how does Bajaj plan to get more of market share? Simple, it releases one more bike in the segment which it is ruled by Bajaj itself! Stop guessing. In a matter of months, Bajaj would launch SONIC in the range of 100 – 125 cc twin spark plug technology based engine. The prominent features include 17― alloy wheels, an integrated head lights and instrument panel cluster, a special rear suspension with spring in spring type of arrangement, speculations are regarding the options to be given in context of a front disc brake and electric start. What would surprise the other companies the most would be the shocking pricing the Bajaj groups plan to launch Bajaj Sonica – Rs35000/- to Rs40000/-. This could give a stiff competition to the Hero Hondas Passion which has undergone several makeovers like passion+, passion ++ and when Hero Honda could get a run for money it’s no use speaking of TVS Centra and Yamaha Libber or LML Freedom which would surely not survive a chance against the Bajaj Sonic which would stand high on styling and features both at a very reasonable price. The interesting thing to look out for is how Bajaj Platina and Bajaj 100 would come up with the competition from their own sibling.

Bajaj XCD

The new Bajaj XCD will be the best product of Bajaj bikes in India if what they already said and XCD is containing all those features. This new Bajaj bike can run with a normal speed of 90 kph and the mileage will be great 75 km/L what the author said. If this new Bajaj 125 cc bikes contain all of these and work like 125 cc bike then it will be an alternative of any 100 cc bikes because it will cost as a 100 cc bike cost. This XCD will produce a power of 9.53 PS at the rate of 7000 rpm what is the milestone for every 125 cc bikes. Bajaj always do the same as every time they said so you rely on what they said about their new XCD of 125 cc. They have the ability to produce new bikes models India every year and they use 100% of their ability to keep their strength in the market. This new Bajaj XCD will break all the records of selling of 125 cc bikes of any model or any company as the Bajaj author estimates. XCD is the short term of exceed what is the real model name of this new Bajaj bike. The seating system of this bike is really awesome and that is one of the main concerns of the people. It is because if the bike seats are not good enough then what will you do with the bike whatever the engine capability if you Dona€™t satisfy seating on it. This is the time of one lakh cars. So if the bike canal€™t do with the best price it already have and give the satisfaction to the people when why the people by these bikes instead of a car.

This bike has the best mileage inthe busy road with traffic jam problem and to save the costly petrol you have to stop your bike on a traffic signal. So you will need self-start system for this to save the petrol. The Bajaj XCD has all the features of a modern bike can have. This bike has the twin spark plug system named DTS like the Pulsar and Discover and this make the starting system appropriate. The Bajaj XCD is the best on the market of 125 cc bikes and this will surely make a history about its selling. Bajaj is doing all they can do to give its extra facility to increase the selling and stability of this bike. It will be a milestone of bike history in India.
