HCfE is excited to announce the launch of new BA programmes
in entrepreneurship, and entrepreneurship and management

opportunities, either through starting a new venture or through
innovating in existing organisations.
The programmes include an optional placement year and,
for their fnal year, selected students will have the unique

Professor Andrew Godley

The aim was to dispel the myth that starting a business requires
vast amounts of money and the perfect business idea. That myth
has again been busted – with proftable businesses launched
with no money turning a proft within a few days.
Interestingly, this year the Bootcamp had a concentration of
attendees from Bulgaria and Greece, possibly a response to the
economic situation in those countries.
Dave emailed the HCfE a month after the event saying ‘Thank you
so much. I’ve made more proft in the last month than in the previous
six’
Co-Founder of the pop up business school, Alan Donegan said
‘We had everything from yoga to improve employee retention and
wellbeing, to a classic car website and events company! We had
so much fun and it was incredible to see people building websites
for free, contacting customers and making money. The Pop-up
Business School is not just about the theory of business but the actual
application and deal-making live in the room!’
Henley MSc Entrepreneurship students meet
entrepreneurs in Poland
In June 2015, Henley MSc Entrepreneurship
students participated in a study visit

their fnal entrepreneurship consultancy project. The aim was
to provide Henley students with an accelerated experience to
enhance their consultancy capabilities, and to assist Polish start-up

Breaking research on ICT clusters from Dr Maks
Belitski
ICT clusters have always attracted much
attention because of their rapid growth in
European cities and their value for other
economic activities.
Research by Maks Belitski and Samee Desai,
published in the Journal of Technology
Transfer, examined the country- and regional-
level conditions and explains what policy-makers need to look at
in order to create an ICT cluster in their region.
The analysis indicates that both country and city conditions are
important for ICT clustering, with ICT products and ICT content
manufacturers responding differently to regional ecosystems
and regulations.
Project selected for prestigious JISC Summer
Innovation programme, Dr Norbert Morawetz
Student employability and collaborative learning are hot topics
of modern education. The key way that universities currently
develop their students’ teamwork and interpersonal skills is
through group work, embedded in the curriculum. However,
most group work does not lead to the development of
transferable skills, as students mainly work with their friends, and
collaboration skills are rarely taught.
Furthermore, few institutions have any mechanism to
capture the impact their education is having on the personal
development of the student. As part of the potential.ly research
project, Dr Norbert Morawetz was awarded a highly competitive
£20,000 grant from JISC to address these issues.
The project brings together psychology, technology and
management science to improve student employability and
collaborative learning and will offer insight into how students’
key personal traits change over the duration of a degree
programme.

European cities and their value for other
economic activities.
Research by Maks Belitski and Samee Desai,
published in the Journal of Technology
Transfer, examined the country- and regional-
level conditions and explains what policy-makers need to look at
in order to create an ICT cluster in their region.
The analysis indicates that both country and city conditions are
important for ICT clustering, with ICT products and ICT content
manufacturers responding differently to regional ecosystems
and regulations.
Project selected for prestigious JISC Summer
Innovation programme, Dr Norbert Morawetz
Student employability and collaborative learning are hot topics
of modern education. The key way that universities currently
develop their students’ teamwork and interpersonal skills is
through group work, embedded in the curriculum. However,
most group work does not lead to the development of
transferable skills, as students mainly work with their friends, and
collaboration skills are rarely taught.
Furthermore, few institutions have any mechanism to
capture the impact their education is having on the personal
development of the student. As part of the potential.ly research
project, Dr Norbert Morawetz was awarded a highly competitive
£20,000 grant from JISC to address these issues.
The project brings together psychology, technology and
management science to improve student employability and
collaborative learning and will offer insight into how students’
key personal traits change over the duration of a degree
programme.
