Govt scandalised, bans AXN for sexiest ads show

New Delhi: The Centre on Wednesday banned the AXN channel for its ''obscene'' programme World's Sexiest Advertisements.

The channel will not be allowed throughout the country till March 15, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi.

Using the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry prohibited the channel’s transmission and retransmission for telecasting the programme which it said was against decency and outraged public morality.

Dasmunsi said the ban would be applicable on Direct to Home and Conditional Access Service. "What they have telecast is condemnable and deserves action," said Dasmunsi.

Sony Entertainment, which distributes the channel in the country, has been told about the government’s decision.

The Ministry has often warned channels for showing “obscene” programmes and first planned action against them by framing downlinking guidelines in 2005.

A programme schedule on the channel’s described the show as a “compilation of the best and the raunchiest television ads from the international arena”. The schedule said the ads were “clever, witty and highly amusing” and proved that “sex sells”.

So wots the idea??? is it a commendable thing?? i dunt understand why these guys can't understand a simple fact that by formulating these nonsensical policies they'r achieving nothing. U mean by banning one show they'r gonna stop the gamut of soft porn dat so easily can be viewed or exchanged hands with???
can they try banning some of those "K" serials n the other cry operas on tv that are turning this country's population into vegetables??!!!

Its preety obvious that the politicians just want to fill their pockets by raising such foofaraw.

In this age of communcation and technology.. they'd want us to watch stupid doordarshan so that we dont advance to western culture !?

I really dont understand the politics behind all this as its stupendously clear that banning the whole channel for a single telecast is a very obnoxious arguement.

I partially agree with you folks.Banning the whole channel for a single program is not a good idea.Telecasting the program,if it is not really serving the purpose , is not a good idea either.

so probably the Govt of India can fit a disclaimer for this program. At least this would be a first hand warning for those who want to avoid the program.

It is all finally in the hands of the individual to have moral policing.

I completely agree to the point that banning this program will not refine the society. But at least this could be a beginning.
