Gonzaga University is a private, four-year comprehensive university. Gonzaga's educational philosophy is based on the 450-year Ignatian model that aims to educate the whole person -- mind, body and spirit -- an integration of science and art, faith and reason, action and contemplation. At Gonzaga, "cura personalis," or care for the individual, is our guiding theme.

Gonzaga was founded in 1887, and enrolls about 6,700 students in 92 undergraduate and 21 graduate programs. The Gonzaga School of Law is one of three in the state of Washington. Located in Spokane, Wash., Gonzaga's campus is situated on 108 acres along the beautiful Spokane River, within a 10-minute walk of downtown Spokane. Spokane enjoys a population of 190,000 within city limits, and more than 400,000 in the greater Spokane area.

Gonzaga is named after a young 16th century Italian Jesuit, Aloysius Gonzaga, who died in Rome trying to save young people from the plague. He was later named the patron saint of youth.

All these elements of our tradition come together within the sphere of free intellectual inquiry characteristic of a university. At Gonzaga, this inquiry is primarily focused on Western culture, within which our tradition has developed.

We also believe that a knowledge of traditions and cultures different from our own draws us closer to the human family of which we are a part and makes us more aware of both the possibilities and limitations of our own heritage. Therefore, in addition to our primary emphasis on Western culture, we seek to provide for our students some opportunity to become familiar with a variety of human cultures.

In the light of our own tradition and the variety of human societies, we seek to understand the world we live in. It is a world of great technological progress, scientific complexity and competing ideologies. It offers great possibilities for cooperation and interdependence, but at the same time presents us with the fact of widespread poverty, hunger, injustice, and the prospect of degeneration and destruction.

We seek to provide for our students some understanding of contemporary civilization; and we invite them to reflect with us on the problems and possibilities of a scientific age, the ideological differences that separate the peoples of the world, and the rights and responsibilities that come from commitment to a free society. In this way we hope to prepare our students for an enlightened dedication to the Christian ideals of justice and peace.

Our students cannot assimilate the tradition of which Gonzaga is a part nor the variety of human culture, nor can they understand the problems of the world, without the development and discipline of their imagination, intelligence, and moral judgment. Consequently, we are committed at Gonzaga to developing these faculties. And since what is assimilated needs to be communicated if it is to make a difference, we also seek to develop in our students the skills of effective writing and speaking.

We believe that our students, while they are developing general knowledge and skills during their years at Gonzaga, should also attain more specialized competence in at least one discipline or profession.

We hope that the integration of liberal humanistic learning and skills with a specialized competence will enable our graduates to enter creatively, intelligently, and with deep moral conviction into a variety of endeavors, and provide leadership in the arts, the professions, business, and public service.

Through its academic and student life programs, the Gonzaga community encourages its students to develop certain personal qualities: self-knowledge, self-acceptance, a restless curiosity, a desire for truth, a mature concern for others, and a thirst for justice.

Many of our students will find the basis for these qualities in a dynamic Christian faith. Gonzaga tries to provide opportunities for these students to express their faith in a deepening life of prayer, participation in liturgical worship and fidelity to the teachings of the Gospel. Other students will proceed from a non-Christian religious background or from secular philosophic and moral principles.

We hope that all our graduates will live creative, productive, and moral lives, seeking to fulfill their own aspirations and at the same time, actively supporting the aspirations of others by a generous sharing of their gifts.

Master of Business Administration

Gonzaga's MBA program offers a comprehensive graduate education for professional management in a dynamic and complex economic environment. The program prepares graduates for leadership roles in business and other organizations. The curriculum provides students with opportunities to apply concepts, techniques, and practice in the functional disciplines of business. Students are challenged intellectually and taught to develop an appreciation of human behavior in organizations and the responsibilities facing entrepreneurs and managerial decision-makers.

Gonzaga offers a MBA in Healthcare Management, the MBA of Choice, and a MBA with the following concentrations: accounting, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, sports management, ethics, and supply chain management. Thirty-three credit hours are required at the 600-level or higher to complete the MBA of Choice. All three programs require completion of foundation requirements. Students are expected to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.

For a MBA of Choice or a MBA with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Sports Management, Ethics, or Supply Chain Management 11 elective credits are required.

Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in American Indian Entrepreneurship

MBA/AIE Program

The Formation of the MBA/AIE program
The Theodore R. & Vivian M. Johnson Scholarship Foundation has allocated scholarship support for American Indians through the 33 Tribal Colleges of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium.

The purpose is to stimulate the development of small business on American Indian reservations, thereby increasing the number of employment opportunities.

The Johnson Foundation chose Gonzaga University to develop the MBA in American Indian Entrepreneurship Program because it is nationally recognized, accredited, and the program is consistent with the University's mission.

The MBA/AIE is . . .

* Designed to educate tribal college faculty to teach entrepreneurial business classes and conduct workshops to their Native American students
* A 45-credit hour, 3 three year lock-step program
* Taught by the School of Business Administration faculty, all of which are terminally degreed
* Funded by the Theodore R. & Vivian M. Johnson Scholarship Foundation

Admission Requirements

* Bachelor's degree
* A minimum index score of 1050 (GPA x 200 + GMAT score)
* Minimum GMAT score of 450
* All tribal college faculty or staff members are eligible. First priority will be given to those directly affiliated with entrepreneurship education.

Documents required for admission

1. A completed application form
2. Two recommendations
3. Official transcripts from each college attended
4. Official GMAT score, taken no later than March 31st
5. All application materials other than GMAT due no later than April 1st

The program structure

* An information weekend is held each year in the fall so that individuals can learn about the program and attend a GMAT tutorial session.
* Each new cohort will start in the summer (July through the 1st week in August) on campus at Gonzaga University for a six-week session.
* Fall and Spring semesters will be taught via distant learning (online, videos, and special projects)

The GMAT exam

* GMAT Graduate Management Admission Test used to measure verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills.
* The GMAT is a computer adaptive test (CAT) available year-round at test centers throughout the USA.
* Call 1-800-GMAT-NOW to verify the test center nearest you, or visit www.mba.com to register online.
* POWERPREP software is available at www.mba.com.
* POWERPREP is interactive software containing practice questions and two timed computer adaptive tests.

Other information

* On campus housing will be provided for students during the six-week summer session.
* Family members are welcomed to live with students on campus during the summer.
* Summer travel expenses will be reimbursed up to $1,000.
* Spokane and its surrounding communities have various events during the summer to entertain family members.
