History
Located at Ribandar just around 3 km from Panjim, the Business School was founded in 1993 when Fr. Romuald D'Souza (ex Director - XLRI, Jamshedpur and XIMB, Bhubaneswar) moved from XIM, Bhubaneswar to create a center of learning and excellence in Goa.
He along with Prof. Anwar Ali, Prof. C.M. Ramesh, Prof. Ranjini Swamy, Prof. V. Gopal, Prof. Suma Damodaran, and Prof. Uday Damodaran started the institute . They managed to convince the then Chief Minister of Goa who also happened to be the brother of Fr. Romuald D'Souza to lease the campus of Goa Dental College.

Infrastructure
The Campus, situated on the banks of the picturesque Mandovi river, is housed in a Heritage Building Santa Casa De Misericordia The Royal Portuguese Hospital, dating back to the Portuguese Rule in Goa. The building, in which the school is housed, is supposed to be one of the earliest Hospitals in India and was converted from a Hospital building to a Business School Campus only in 1993. Today, it has better infrastructure such as Wi-fi connected campus, fully networked hostels and AC classrooms. Keeping its Hospital legacy, some of the campus blocks still carry their past names. For example, the Operation Theatre is now the Boy’s Hostel but it is still referred to as the OT. The various blocks are

• Library
• Office
• OT (Mens’ Hostel)
• Morgue (Second Ladies Hostel)

The library subscribes to most major national and international business and industry publications. The Institute provides access to various online databases and sources of information like Proquest, Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, Capitaline, and EBSCO.
Placements
Over the years, Goa Institute of Management has earned the enviable reputation of being one of the finest management schools in the country. This year, GIM and its students weathered what is probably one of the worst economic downturns in recent times with aplomb. While placements in all B-schools around the country got badly affected, GIM did significantly better than most. As a placement co-ordinator puts it, "At GIM, we believe in long term relationships with our recruiters and they have in turn rewarded us for this." Over 40 companies showed an interest in visiting the campus to select the candidates who best suited their requirements. The final placements in 2008-09 featured a diversity of sectors with good representation from BFSI, FMCG, Consulting, IT/ITES, Telecom, Auto & Manufacturing, Market Research, Travel & Hospitality and the Pharmaceutical/Medical sectors. Major recruiters representing various sectors were Johnson & Johnson Medical India, HSBC, Tata Capital, Vodafone, Wipro Consumer Care, Wipro Technologies, UB Group, IMRB, Thomas Cook, Loop Telecom, Tata Motors, Novartis, Deloitte, HP, eClerx, Godrej & Boyce, etc. GIM received a total of 125 offers including 8 pre-placement Offers for 119 students.
