British ruled over India for more than 150 years and the impact that they have left on the culture of the country is hard to fathom as far as the language is concerned. Though it is not our mother tongue yet its place in our entire network is indispensable considering its widespread usage.

But today we witness an altogether new language that has evolved and slowly it is replacing conventional English.

The increasing use of modern gadgets has given rise to altogether a new generation of techno kids and their new SMS languages.

The SMS lingo is a matter of great concern because with its PERVASIVE usage we notice deterioration in the spellings and the grammar of English, especially of Indian students. Indian students have always learned the language with the extra effort being it a foreign one and given the fact it’s a global possibilities are many and varied. They have always made the country proud by winning many spelling and grammar quizzes overseas and having won many a prestigious awards. This is also true because of their unexceptionally good reading habits and better writing skills.

But the SMS language is harming them on this form and is like an erosion on the richness of the language which has so far been nurtured by many in views of their literacy pursuits.

Let us not fall a prey to the so called ‘adulteration’ in this beautiful realm of English language and try out level best to sustain its beauty and opulence.
